I've given myself until the end of this week to decide between applying early to Stanford or Yale... any final thoughts about why I should apply early to one over the other?

Why? Reasoning as to why Stanford/Yale is the better choice would be greatly appreciated (even if... or especially? ... the answer is because you're applying early to the other school)

It depends on where you're from. At my CA school we're warned about how hard it is for West Coast kids to get into Stanford who are not legacies, etc. So if you're W Coast, go Yale. If you're E Coast, the reverse would probably work. Mid West???

I'm from the West... but our school actually has connections with Stanford that go way back (a good portion of the top of the class has always gone to Stanford), and we actually do quite well with admissions at Yale actually. We'll assume (although probably not true) that my chances are equally strong at each school. (In reality there's actually a slightly better chance that I get into Stanford probably because I went to math camp there this summer and ama girl who is strong in math/science, something that they really like)

<arlgirl, do you go to an LA private school? If you're where I'm thinking, have you checked how many of your fellow Stanford applicants are legacies and otherwise connected to the school? If you're at that LA school and not a legacy or fevelopment candidate, I'd seriously go with Yale.

I do... but are you thinking of H-W? If so that's not where I go. I applied, hated it, got rejected. I am not a legacy anywhere meaningful (UCLA doesnt give a damn if my dad went there), and my school won't tell me how many students applying are legacies.

My school tells. Worked against me but now it's given me a handle on the realities at schools like Stanford. Be assured that LA private schools are filled with Stanford connected people and of course wealthy potential donors. It's not to say that Yale isn't well represented, too, but I think Stanford is overwhelmingly so. Good luck whatever you decide!
