I am trying to decide between Penn and Wash U. My best (only) chance for either is to apply early. Decent chance to get in at both (legacy at Penn)Don't have a clue as to what major to pursue. Unlikely to be medical related or business related for that matter. Any thoughts?

My friend has the same dilemma. He is either going to apply early to Penn or Wash U. I'm also kinda in the same boat since I'm planning on applying early to Penn but I'm going to see Wash U next week and I'm sure I'll love it. Anyways, I think they are very similar schools. They both have a wide variety of majors, a good social scene, both in cities, and both are diverse. You can't really go wrong with either one. I guess just go with whichever feels right.

Penn is more prestigious if that matters.

I also feel that the two schools, despite being in large cities, are in very different locations. WashU is in a much more suburban area in St. Louis, whereas Penn is practically downtown. Penn definitely still has green space and open areas, and I truly feel walking down Locust Walk is one of the most gorgeous sights one will ever see, but it isn't quite the same as WashU. It's all a personal preference I guess... I really wanted to feel part of a vibrant city atmosphere, and Penn gave me that feeling. WashU was very nice, but not the type of campus I was looking for (in fact, I never applied there)

I applied to Penn... I loved Wash U. and was planning to apply ED II there. I chose Penn because it's slightly more dynamic (it's a northeastern school... Wash U has a slightly more relaxed, midwestern mindset). Penn is more diverse. Also, reputation counts in the job market, and Penn is the 4th best school in the country... not to mention a member of the Ivy League.

Except for the fact that Wash U is one of the most "Up and Coming" schools. It's med school program and med school combined are second to none.

And, my friend just visited Wash U. He said that everyone there was amazingly friendly and awesome and that it can either be a totally "relaxed" school or it can be a really fun party school depending on what you want.
