can i write about a person who influenced me?

I had the brown Admissions officer visit us today. He handles Northern/central Jersey, Guam, Most of Asia, Northern Cali, and from other places.

Basically he said he just likes to read a good story. It could be a very serious topic, but it doesn't have to be. Just has to tell a good story so that he can get away from all the papers and his job for 5 min. He also added that most of them (18 on the board) are English majors so they love to read just about anything.

He also advocated to steer away from the cliche topics. He said he had many people write about climbing a mountain and how it relates to life and coming out into the world from high school and such.

He added that there was a girl last year who wrote about spending a day at the beach with her grandfather and that she wrote about it in such a mature and serious way and that she described the scenery and everything so well that he felt he was there with them. We asked him if she got in and he said "yes, of course" with a smile on his face.

Then again, he also mentioned a football player that scored the last winning touchdown of the season at his last football game in high school. When we asked if he got in, the answer was no.

Another story he told us was of a person who put music and all this stuff on a CD to show that he REALLY wanted to get into Brown. When we asked if he got in he said, "No. He didn't. I recommended his application to the other people on the board but then they asked me why is he a good canidate and why should he be taken over such and such person" so on and so forth.
