here's another one lol (also posted at "Chances" board, so those who have seen it already can ignore it lol)
hi everyone!
I LOVE Brown and will be applying ED, and wanted to get some opinions and/or comments.
This Monday we had a few college visits at my school and Brown came. I thought it would just be representative from the school but it ended up being the admissions officer for my state (yikes!). I hope I made a good impression on him! I definitely showed my interest because I know a lot about the school and I had tons of questions, but I'm worried that I came off way too type-a (which I am lol), to this cool, laid-back, southern Cali dude lol...hopefully not. Anyway, here are my stats:
Basics
-----------
Hispanic Female; Permanent Resident of the US; Living in South Florida; Attending a well known & competitive high school, taking hardest course load available
Cumulative GPA: 4.77(w), 3.62(uw)...ouch lol
SAT I Score: currently 1350 (750v 600m), retaking in November, practice exams scores have been 750-800v, and 650+m so far
SAT II Scores: taking in October; practice exam scores so far have been around:
Writing: 750-800 (with multi choice, and assuming decent essay)
Math IIc: 650+
Literature: 760-800
Class Rank: I think it's 26/475 (top ~6%), and first semester of this year it should jump up a few more spots b/c of my schedule

--------
I have severe testing anxiety, which has had negative effects on my standardized test and in my classes (mostly in chem and math).
About 200+ service hours from various places (hospital, school, tutoring, etc).
Work Experience: I've been working at a local restaurant since I was 14 (9th grade), usually averaging 8-30 hrs a week, and being basically financially independent (my family has had a pretty terrible past few years lol). This did effect my grades a bit though, since on weekdays I got home from school at 5, worked at 5:30, and would be home by 10 or later.
Recommendations will be from my AP Chem teacher and AP history teacher. For AP Chem, though I didn't do very well in her class (C/B) I always tried very hard and did not drop the course like many others did. I managed to get an A on the final exam get the B second semester, and my JETS team (she was our sponsor) did fairly well in competition. I also have a more personal relationship with her b/c I helped her move into her house and I also threw her a surprise wedding shower last year. My other letter will be from my AP history teacher (euro and US) who I had for 2 years. I was one of the better students in his class in that I participated, took notes, and didn't fall asleep lol, so hopefully he can write me a good letter (though i'm afraid it will be too impersonal). I'm also an officer in NHS and he is the sponsor.
My letters and my grades are my biggest worries right now, as they seem the most potentially weak. Should I get a supplemental letter from my employer?
comments? suggestions? do I have even a chance?
thanks
-anna
