Hey,

I'm applying to upenn obviously and when I get there i think i want to double major in psychology and anthropology.

my question is, would i graduate with two degrees? if not, what would i have to do to do so?

The answer to your question is no, you'd have a double major, not two degrees.

There are a handful of "joint degree" programns - mostly (so far as I am aware) in conjunction with SEAS and either the College or Wharton. The Fisher M&T program is probably the best known. These programs require 40-46 credits as opposed to the 32-36 credits a regular degree requires. (That typically means at least a 5 year program.)

You may be able to set up a dual degree program on your own, but keep in mind that in both those subjects you've most likely got grad school in you future so you might be best served by a single customized degree that will get you moving toward whatever you have in mind.

If you are studying two different things within the a school (ie wharton, college, seas) then you double concentrate. However, if you do two concentrations each from a different school then you will get a dual-degree. For a dualdegree you can apply while at Penn. The joint degrees are different because you apply during frosh admissions. Just to correct wcolsher, the joint degree programs (huntsman,m&t,nursing/wharton) are 4 year programs in which many of the requirements have been waived in order for those students to finish in 4 years. A dual degree candidate, as oppossed to a joint degree candidate, might have to stay some extra time, either summers or an extra semester. This however depends on the AP credit, etc that you come in with. For example, I had 8 AP credits coming into Penn so for my dual degree I will have to stay a summer and do 2 extra classes or I can add them on to my normal schedule and take 6 classes rather than 5.

oh sorry i forgot, so for you since both those majors are in the college you can easily double major, pretty much your electives will be filled with your second majors classes and you wont have to stay any extra time at Penn.

Hey all you Penn hopefuls:

I hope you all are getting through the admission process okay [i no i didnt]. Anyway, i have a little bit of time on my hands, so i open to reading/editing anyone's essay on Why Penn or the other essays. People last year help me edit on this site so i guess i feel obligated to do so myself. I know some of you might not want to post your essays on this site, so feel free to email me if you would like.

How do you decide which major you graduate with a degree then?

By Bern700 (Bern700) on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 - 11:01 am: Edit

Your diploma will say something like, B.S. in Economics with Concentrations in Finance and Management.

chocoman - all the (CAS) degree says is that you graduated with a BA. your majors are only listed on your transcript. AFAIK - I only know that much b/c one of the people who lived in my house last year left his diploma behind...as you do.
ps. as a psych/anthro major, you made a great choice ;)
