Discus: Ivy League Schools: Brown University: Transfer Question
By Ofur (Ofur) on Friday, September 17, 2004 - 05:20 pm: Edit

I want to transfer into UChicago for my second year of college. Currently, I am attending DePaul University, and I'm getting really good grades so far. I guess my guestion is how hard is admission for transfer, do I have a chance, and what can I be doing to increase my chances?

In high school..my stats/activities

-GPA was about 3.4 due to a bad freshman year
-28 ACT, I'm retaking it this month, I want to break 30.
-Internship with National Institute of Health, Viral Epi. Dept. Summer of junior year.
-Volunteer work for over 3 years at same location.
-Leadership position in high school clubs (French club and COR).
-Worked in retail jobs for at least 12-30 hours a week all during school.
-Attended Leadership conference in Medicine
-Took class at UChicago summer of soph. year, got a B.

So, if I can end up getting at least a 3.8, do I hold a shot of getting in at Chicago?

Chicago is my number one choice, I also plan to apply to Brown, Sarah Lawrence, Evergreen State..

So, chances, thoughts, ideas? Help. Please.

You need a 4.0 at DePaul...adcoms are well aware that Chicago is infinitely more challenging than DPU.

Make sure you schedule an interview where you articulate your most compelling reasons for wanting to attend. What is it about Chicago that makes it your first choice? Your essay should also center around a particular department or professor with whom you'd like to work.

And Evergreen state? Why would you downgrade yourself?
