Hi I'm a senior this year. I got a 740 on the Sat2 writing , but I only got a subscore of 56 on the essay portion. Will this be detrimental for admission to Brown PLME? Should I retake? Or am I worried about nothing?
BTW: my GPA, other standardized test scores, and EC's are all very good (I think they are definetely strong enough to be competitive in PLME)

In my opinion, 740 is an excellent score. I cannot imagine the need to retake that test. I likely would have even said that had it been math but given that it is writing and you are going with the med thing, it is surely good enough and complements your other strong stats (I presume) just fine.

I'm sure that Brown has more than enough applicants to realize that standardized test scores (particularly from only one subject) are not necessarily indicative of skills and abilities. Like Susan said, I think your 740 will be sufficient, although I went through a similar issue when I got my score back, as I'm also applying to PLME.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses everyone. I am very happy with the 740 overall score, but I guess I was a little uneasy about the low essay score (I had read somewhere that they ask for a copy of the essay). I suppose I shouldn't worry about it then. Any other opinions and feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks again

The statement about asking for the essay is on the PLME admissions website, although, quite frankly, I'm not sure exactly how one would go about doing that. My essay score was also not exemplary, but I hope it will be ameliorated by the supplementary materials I'm submitting.
