By Jerew (Jerew) on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 05:13 pm: Edit

SAT math- 780
SAT verbal- 690 (Will retake. Probably 1540)
Math IIC- 750+
Physics -800
Writing- 720+
AP Physics B- 5 No AP's are offered to juniors until I found regular physics to be VERY BORING)
Grades - Straight A's
Will take AP ENGLISH, CHEM, and CALC (all that my school offers) Will also self teach AP Physics C and German III (actually, the German is from a college that sends me the material). Hopefully this will show some good study skills and a drive to learn.

Am taking a college-level type course on the Bible at church (has homework and is taught by very educated men.) Should I include?

Love to play Ultimate Frisbee, but no official sports.

Rank is about 5/180 cuz of phy ed. (might try to convince counselor not to include, cuz it is really unfair in my case. I was good at dodgeball!)

"Best in years" recommendation from physics teach

EC
4 years Jazz Band (3 as lead percussionist) 15+ hours a week
4 years of Drumline (1 as tenor section leader)40+ hours a week! (I know, too much) (VERY high ranking drumline, nationwide)
4 years Symphonic band
Helped raise 3000 for Diabetes

Job at Grocery Store for 3 years
Assistant Major of Video Department (20 hours a
week)

2 years as choir drummer

Volunteer a lot at my church (percussion, etc) many hours

Am taking private lessons with World Tenor Drum Champ of 1994

Jim Widner Jazz Camp 2003

Alan Feirer Leadership Camp 2004

Attended and performed in Music Festivals with band in Florida (2001) and San Antonio (2004)

Awards
National Merit Commended Student
4 years of Superior Percussion Solo at State Solo/Ensemble Contest
Outstanding Perussionist Award from School

I want to be a physics major, and i realize that my ECs do not reflect that. That is because there is little opportunity at my school for science EC's.

Not a URM, legacy, or poor kid, but being from small town Minnesota, life is very different, and I just can't do research and stuff cuz of lack of programs and time. (our band is known throughout the region for its excellence) Parents are eduacated.

EA or RD with better SAT scores? (Hopefully)

Could I maybe recieve a percentage?

I want to add that I have been selected by my school to moderate a debate between state senators for the upcoming election. I also had a part-time job teaching percussion to a younger kid. I know it's still a long shot. Any comments?

Are you kidding, dude? You sound like a well qualified Harvard applicant, and I am a critical person.

One thing I see lacking so far. A passion or drive for something. Do you have one, or did I miss it?

Sorry, yeah I would definelty consider music a passion of mine. The drumline in probably the best in the state, and i spend my life (40 hours a week) at band and band events for 3 months. Jazz band is also very intensive, although I admit I am not very good at it. I spend a lot of time practicing for it, and I drum at church. I know that marching band is an unusual EC, but here in small town Minnesota, it is my passion. Anyone else have an opinion on my chances?
