Discus: Ivy League Schools: Yale University: SAT's and college admission
By Totohoto (Totohoto) on Friday, September 03, 2004 - 08:07 pm: Edit

This is my first time posting a message but i have read a lot of the ones that say "what are my chances?" In all of those discussions when people see SAT scores of 1300 or 1400 they automatically answer "well your SAT's are low...etc..." After visiting many colleges this summer and hearing wat the admissions officers have said and what high school guidance counselors say, I thought that the SAT score was not as big of a factor in college admissions as people in these boards make it out to be. the middle portion of students admitted to yale (25%-75%) have SAT scores ranging from around 1380-1510 or something like that. So I dont understand why people with 1400's on their SAT's are said to have low SAT scores for yale.

Does anybody have any comments??

well those published ranges are kinda bs because you really need to look at sat ranges for unhooked whites and asians, which make up a little under 50% of a place like yale. a "low" sat doesn't matter too much in a situation like being valedictorian of a great high school and having other good test scores and other accomplishments or if you have great achievement/national recognition in an ec, but they do matter more in the unhooked whites and asians with nothing in particular thats unique and impressive about them
