Discus: Ivy League Schools: Columbia University: EA and ED
By Sandmanpb (Sandmanpb) on Friday, August 27, 2004 - 10:37 am: Edit

I was looking at the Columbia application, and noticed that they don't say Early Application, which is non binding, but do have Early Decision, which is binding. So if i apply early to Columbia and get in, I'm obligated to enroll there too? I can't get out? Thanks.

The only way you can back out of ED is if you can prove that your financial aid isn't sufficient.

Yeah, but how do you go about "proving." The application instructions mention that it's a decision that your family decides upon. I mean my family makes a six-figure salary a year but we are still concerned. How are we supposed to prove anything?

Supposedly only around 6 kids or so, in the past 5 years or "so," (according to the officer at the info. session) have opted out of ED. So I'm assuming Columbia's aid is usually good or that those who are really concerned about financial aid usually don't apply ED.
