Hey, I'll be attending Columbia next year, and I was wondering if anybody could give me any advice as to what dorm I should request. I've decided upon a single so I'm mainly looking between John Jay and Furnald. Which of the two is more preferable? Thanks

Furnald is clean and bright and gorgeous and has air conditioning (though sometimes it doesn't get turned on... and then it's an oven...). It's fantastic. Live there.

John Jay has a lot more people per floor, a tendency towards loud jock floors, and is dark and kind of dingy. On the plus side, however, the dining hall is on the ground floor and JJ's Place, a late-night convenience store, is in the basement, which means you can go to meals in your pajamas and get friend chicken fingers and Ben and Jerry's at one a.m. when it's snowing. But if you don't mind walking a little to meals (when I say a little, I mean from the Broadway side of campus to the Amsterdam side; you can almost yell that far), live in Furnald.
