Any?

How do you feel about being locked up into a profession? My parents are suggesting I apply but I'm not sure if I want to commit to something like this so early.

if ur not sure about the long commitment, then u shouldnt apply .. dont take it the bad way, i am just saying that this program is for those who know for sure they wanna become doctors and those who want to wholeheartily commit for 8 years

I thought in PLME you don't have to "commit." If you decide not to go to med school..than you don't have to go.

The advantage is-no mcats, pretty decent guarantee into med school.

Since you don't have to spend your time doing MCAT classes or med school-related activities..you can actually explore more things. If anything..it doesnt lock you into anything.

but why would anyone with second thoughts of going into med school even apply for the program ... they are many other kids who definitely are sure that they wanna go to med school, so why just take a spot and not even put it to the right use ... and i totally agree that with plme, you can explore a lot of things ... bc thats what brown and plme are all about ... but keep in mind that no matter what u do and explore, ur end goal is finishing brown med school and becoming a doctor ... i just dont understand why someone would go into the program with thoughts of not going to med school ... thats my two cents ... take it how u like

im in the plme because im pretty sure i want to become a doctor. im not positive, no one can be before they enter college, there is just too much we havent been exposed to. the funny thing is, when i went to the orientation, the heads of the program were saying that they consider it a victory if plme students decide not to go to medical school. they figure it means they broadened that student's horizons. so dont worry too much about it. they wont let you in if they dont feel ur passionate about medicine to begin with, so no flukes make it past admission. if ur passionate about it, then go for it. if you change your mind, so be it.
