Wow, although I've seen a lot of impressive stats of prospective applicants on this board, yours are truly amazing. I can see no reason why you shouldn't be admitted to Harvard EA. My only advice is to be self-confident and ace the interview, which carries a lot of weight according to my experience. Good luck!

I hate you. :-P

Just kidding. But dang. You have it all. Good luck!

Wait, quick question.

"International Library of Poetry National Editor's choice award" -- isn't this one of the awards from poetry.com?

I've always thought that poetry.com was a scam... but do you think we can actually put an award like that on our application?

By Skistar1800 (Skistar1800) on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 07:38 am: Edit

Justlaugh-

In my opinion, it can't hurt. Even if it might be a scam (I'm not sure, but I don't think it is), it's still an award and we won it---there is no problem putting something like that on your application because you aren't lying at all.

Whoosh, that was a loooong list. Okay, you have got the stats and I have got to congratulate you :). Now, my only piece of advice is PLEASE WORK ON YOUR ESSAYS!!! But you seem like a smart cookie, so I am sure your essays will be good. Just make sure your essay tells the admissions officers something that they DON'T see in your application. In other words, don't talk about your stats.

Oh, and also, I don't recommend posting up your essay here. Truly, your essay is personal and probably should be kept to yourself, not put out in public for others to look at and maybe even take your ideas. Seriously, who knows who reads these boards. But if you want to post your topic choice or maybe what you want your essay to focus on that might be better.

Anyways, I think you are going to be just fine. Just relax and most importantly, DON'T FREAK OUT. I truly truly wish that I could say that you are definitely going to get into Harvard and all the other schools that you apply to, but sometimes its just the luck of the draw, truthfully. But I wish you the best of luck because you totally deserve it and you have worked hard. You will do good things wherever you go, but I hope you get into where you want to get into!

How can you do all these things in so little time? I am so impressed!!

By Anothernycdad (Anothernycdad) on Thursday, August 05, 2004 - 10:30 pm: Edit

Outstanding in so many ways, tho not sure there is a strong picture of top leadership across several areas. I don't mean it as a downer given all the great accomplishments; it's just that Harvard and its ilk can be really picky and in looking at the whole picture, it does get to be a crapshoot. (E.g., 3000 apps had M 800, and less than half, maybe more like a quarter were admitted.)

How many from your school apply and how many are usually admitted? Being Val really helps re. your peers, as well as a varsity sport combined with the great academics and music.

And yes let yourself shine in the essay.

Good luck!

that is a VERY long list. With all of the ECs and the things you have done during the summer, you have a good chance of getting n EA.

By 80drofnats (80drofnats) on Friday, August 20, 2004 - 10:07 pm: Edit

chances are 50/50 i'd say, get some kind of isef or sts recognition because as a unhooked white male from an overrepresented area like long island, its almost impossible to get in, i think they take about 150 unhooked white males a year at harvard, and every unhooked white male in the country competes for it.

Thanks for the help everybody. I also wanted to know, do you think that my activities depict a clear enough picture to show science as my "hook" or passion? Also, any other suggestions or comments? Thanks

well, i would think so!!! If someone else in your grade had better grades than yours, i personally would be very VERY discouraged to apply to harvard myself :-) good luck! you deserve to be admitted
