So I appear to be stuck in Perkins Hall, the most remote residence hall on campus. To cheer me up, will someone tell me about the place? Anything special about it that makes up for the eleventy billion mile hike to the main green? I noticed that it is not undergoing any of the renovations schedualed for this summer.

I'd like to know also. Looking at it though, it's only a couple more blocks than Pembrooke and that walk isn't bad at all.

It has a pretty good kitchen. My bro stayed there this summer, and the kitchen struck me as nicer than the other ones I have seen. So cheer up!

How big are the individual dorm rooms (h/w/l)? I'm thinking of setting up a compact hammoch/stand if it'll fit.

Ok, I have very bad estimating skills, so this may be off a little. But the rooms were about as wide as three of the beds. Then, there was a space maybe five feet beyond where the beds ended until you got to the door. And there was a closet. This room was a double. I don't know if by individual you mean each room, or an actual single room.

i am a rising sophomore at Brown and i lived in perkins my freshman year. at first i was horribly disappointed because i thought the dorm was so far away and i thought i would be miserable, but when i actually got to brown, it wasn't that bad. as the year progressed, everyone in perkins became really good friends with everyone else unlike many of the larger dorms. perkins is a great place to live and there are always parties going on in perkins. it's a really really great place to live and i am glad i got to live their freshman year. don't worry about it. people will be like "oh my god you live in perkins?! that's so far!" but the walk isnt that bad once you get used to it and the dorm itself is a really great place. i would have to say that it was the best freshman dorm to live in and if i had to re-do my freshman year i would definitely hope to be living in perkins again.

Perkins is initially unpopular because it's so far from the rest of campus. Brown alumni who have been housed in Perkins, however, routinely praise the experience since Perkinites tend to form a closer communal bond than freshman in other dorms do. Campus folklore favors the notion that more Brown marriages are attributable to relationships begun in Perkins than any other dorm on campus.

I meant Keaney Quad.

No thread hijaking, Marianne :-p.
Thank you for all of your feedback, guys. Interestingly enough, as soon as I added "staying in Perkins" to my facebook profile, about eight new people got into contact with me. I guess the Perkinites are bonding early.
As for marrying through dorm-relations, the idea of getting involved with a girl in my dorm kind of scares me.... I can just imagine things going awry, and then trying to avoid seeing her in the hallway for the rest of the year. Eesh. Anyone experience something like that?

Printhanox,
I hope you were joking :-m.

Joking? Hardly. You attempted to change the topic of this thread from Perkins to Keaney. I consider this a most grevious offense.
But you did spell my name correctly, which about .02% of people do, so I don't hate you as much as I would otherwise :-D
