Do you have to send AP scores? The only AP course I took this year was Calc and I got a 1 on the exam (didn't study a lick). With the exception of Calc, all the other courses are IB. Because IB is a 2 year program in all the IB classes I took last year, I didn't have any tests in those. Anyway, do I have to send Princeton my great score of 1 on the AP Calc test? (I got an A,A in the class, but decided I didn't care about the AP test)

No, you have no obligation to send your AP scores. However, be aware that they look for students who just do well in the course but don't take the exam. For the other AP courses you take, be sure to study and do well on the exam. Not only does it exempt you from many courses (thus saving you $$$), it shows that you know the subject matter. That is, because the difficulty of schools across the nation is so different, they'll be able to tell that the A you got in, say, chemistry, wasn't because of an easy teacher, but because you knew your stuff since you got a 4 on the exam.

One note though: when you send your AP scores, ALL of them are sent. So if you take a few other AP exams and get 4s or 5s, they may mask the one.

Thanks for the response.

Calc is the only AP offered at our school, everything else is IB.

I talked to a Pton adcom, and she said that it is better if u submit all of your scores, even if u got a 2, because it might come up in some other part of the application and would make the admissions commitee think that you are not being fully honest and forthcoming.

She said that while a bad AP score wont hurt you by itself, compared to other applicants it wouldnt look good.

BTW I'm kinda in the same position as you are- I got a 2 on the BC test (3 on the AB subscore).
