Hey everybody! I was just wondering... what are my chances at Columbia College?
GPA: 3.8ish UW, 4.0ish W (no rank)
SATs: 1410 (710 M, 700 V) -> might retake in Nov. (hopefully 1450+)
SAT IIs: 800 French, 670 Math 1C, 670 Writing -> retaking Math and Writing in Oct. (hopefully 700+)
APs: (Planned) French, English, Environmental Science
Also- I took 2 college classes at a nearby college: Geology and International Relations(both As).
ECs: JV Golf team, Track team, I founded both a hospital volunteer group at my school and also the French Honors Club, piano, Current Events club, volunteer at a soup kitchen, I'm a judge for Destination Imagination, and I'm on the school "Climate Committee" (it's a group that helps the overall environment of the school and student-staff relations~ you have to apply for it).
Awards, Personal, etc.: California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Roll, and my Mom remarried my freshman year (which explains some grades- it's an upward trend from there!)
I will be applying as a French major.
Thank you so much!!!

bump...

this is the third time you've done this.

Yes, Godis, I realize this. It's just that I receive such a paucity (good 'ol SAT) of responses that, in order to get some feedback, I must post multiple times. If you don't like it, simply don't look at my post.

it's hard not to look considering that you keep making these chances threads.

nobody likes you Godis. i feel for you. im here if you need someone to talk to.
By Godis (Godis) on Friday, July 09, 2004 - 12:35 pm: Edit
and you're still responding!

So Godis, why don't you just not look at this post anymore, and we'll all be happier?
So who wants to answer my original post (and ignore Godis)? Thanks.

'vak, Godis is actually a cool dude-- no joke. Don't miss out being friends with him. You guys are both CC'ers anyway-

This is true. I'm sorry, Godis. I'm just in a really bad mood for some reason. No hard feelings, okay?

was Pigeonblood being sarcastic? seriously
By Calidan (Calidan) on Friday, July 09, 2004 - 07:52 pm: Edit
I was saying "this is true" to the both of us being CC'ers, and we should all be... um... "decent" to eachother. I have no idea if Godis is cool or not, but I really was in a bad mood.

yah bro, you're right... it's been settled. no hard feelings here, and i hope Godis feels the same =D

So, Ripvak- I see that you are going to Columbia in the Fall. If you don't mind my asking, what were your stats? Is there anything you can tell me to do that would raise my chances of admission? Thanks!
By Ripvak23 (Ripvak23) on Friday, July 09, 2004 - 08:57 pm: Edit
i kinda do mind you asking, but w/e. the important thing is that your scores are in the range, so they wont hurt or help you but a 1500+ is definitely a boost.
SAT I: mid 1400s
SAT IIs: all 750+
Rank: top 5% at a large public school
I'd say those type of scores will get your foot in the door. Then, all you gotta do is stand out lol. Good luck on your app!!

'Vak and Godis, as Columbians, we should band together and make our school stronger. I'm glad you've sorted everything out. I got into a few arguments on this board with Godis some time ago, and those were definitely mistakes. I'm seriously looking forward on meeting both of you come O-week.
To the OP, I definitely suggest you writing about your experiences with French (i.e. immersing yourself in the environment, your contributions to your french community, etc in your essay). Having a 1500+ (or even a 1450+) will definitely enhance your app, as your grades are excellent. Apply ED-- IM me for past essays, etc for ideas.

Thanks, Pigeon! I think I am going to apply ED, seeing as Columbia is my first choice. You guys have been so helpful. Thanks, Ripvak- I just think that it's helpful to see admitted students stats.
