Wanted to get a view on the Columbia U's SHP (Science Honors Program) for HS students. The evaluation process is pretty tough - like a mini-college application process. But does it improve one's chances (who is on the borline ) to get in low end Ivies? More importantly does it improve one's chances for getting in Columbia?

try to search " shp at columbia" and you will find the official website of it,
personally , i don't think it can improve your chance for columbia a lot, i think this program is just a way to fill your interest in science,

i think it def improves chances of getting into columbia... i've heard a fuzzzy stat of 70% acceptance rate of SHP alumni. Columbia definitely trusts its own testing... i think alot of ivies despair that they ccant test students themselves for entrance, this is a mini chance.

plus, besides employing grad students, the main point of SHP is attracting worthy prospectives

cool, i just got in this program , so it is a good news for me , Contessa , are you in this program ? if you are in , i want to know that is it possible for me to take more that one course, cause i am interest in so many of them , i wish i could take 2 first, and then other 2 in the second semester,

Forever Lisai,

You're allowed to take 1 course each semester. Read the acceptance letter and some older threads on this forum. All courses meet at the exact same time; you cannot do 2 during the same semester.

yes, i'm in the program. you can only take 1 course per semester, but proffesor blair might appreciate your interest so u can speak to him when u start in september. congrats on your admittance, SHP is lotsa fun- the ppl and the city really make it a great program more than the courses.
