Here are my stats:
SATI:
Math-710
Verbal-800
SATII:
Spanish-780
Writing-760
US History-670
GPA: Around 4.0/.1 weighted (but it will go up this upcoming year)... My weighted GPA for the past two years have been more around 4.2, though. I've gotten straight A's every single quarter.
PSAT: Not sure if it's worth mentioning, but I got whatever was equivalent to like a 1420 or something... I got a letter about being a National Merit contender.
I am in the top 10% of the class (cum laude).
The classes I took as a Junior were:
AP US History
AP English III
Precalculus
AP Chemistry
and AP Spanish Language (For AP Spanish Language I guess it is valuable to note that I took Spanish I in 8th grade and after sophomore year I SKIPPED Spanish 4 and went straight to AP Spanish Language... would this appeal to colleges?)
Senior year I will be taking:
AP Environmental Science
AP Calculus AB
AP English IV
AP Psychology
AP Spanish Literature
Clubs/Sports: Been in Literary Magazine every year of highschool. Was in Financial Analysis Club. I was in Boule club. I played tennis for 2 years and golf for one.
Special: I am going to the Governors school for Spanish this summer. I've placed highly on the National Spanish Exam. I won a prestigious Expository Writing Prize at my school and have been published in its literary magazine. I actively participate for a lost dog rescue foundation, helping with website maintenance, the fostering of dogs, and volunteering at adoptions.
What are my chances at Princeton? Like in terms of percentages what would be my chances if I applied w/o ED/EA and if I applied with ED/EA

I'm going to take Math IIc in October or something, hope to get a 700. I'll also probably retake writing and will hopefully get 780/800.
I am a white male.
Would I have a chance if I applied ED?

If you apply ED, you should have a good chance. What it comes down to is exactly what seperates you from the rest? Your essay needs to be outstanding (not in any relation to your stats), and also, you need to emphasize something that really differentiates you.

I would try to bring up the U.S. History or do well on the math IIC. Also, try to show extensive commitment in one or two areas, not just membership in clubs but taking an interest you have (like Spanish) and turning it into a research project or new group or community service activity. Keep in mind that all these schools are looking for students who will contribute a great deal of energy to campus life.

What about with these semi-updated stats?
Here are my stats:
SATI:
Math-710 (94%)
Verbal-800 (99%)
SATII:
Spanish-780
Writing-760 (I may retake this to get a 780/800)
US History-670
I will be taking Math IIc, hopefully will get a 700, so I won't be sending my US History score.
GPA: Around 4.0/.1 weighted (but it will go up this upcoming year)... My weighted GPA for the past two years have been more around 4.2, though. I've gotten straight A's every single quarter. My GPA has increased every year of my high school career.
PSAT: Not sure if it's worth mentioning, but I got whatever was equivalent to like a 1420 or something... I got a letter about being a National Merit contender.
I am in the top 10% of the class (cum laude) in a difficult private school (I think I'm probably like ranked 2/~85, but we don't do rankings).
The classes I took as a Junior were:
-AP US History
-AP English III
-Precalculus
-AP Chemistry
-AP Spanish Language (For AP Spanish Language I guess it is valuable to note that I took Spanish I in 8th grade and after sophomore year I SKIPPED Spanish 4 and went straight to AP Spanish Language... would this appeal to colleges?)
Senior year I will be taking:
-AP Environmental Science
-AP Calculus AB
-AP English IV
-AP Psychology
-AP Spanish Literature
Clubs/Sports:
-Literary Magazine
-Financial Analysis Club
-Boule Club
-Played tennis for 2 years
-I'm in the Dead Poets Society yearbook picture ;)
-Played on varsity golf team
-Will be a student ambassador this upcoming year
-I took introduction to art, introduction to music, and will be taking ceramics this year
-I'll do school newspaper this year
Special:
-Going to Spanish governors school this summer.
-Placed something like 7th on the National Spanish Exam my sophomore year
-Won a prestigious Expository Writing Prize at my school
-Have been published in the school's literary magazine
-I am in Spanish Honors Society
-I actively work for a Lost Dog Rescue Foundation, helping with site maintenance, fostering of dogs, and volunteering at adoptions (well over 100 hours)
My essay is going to be spectacular. I'm not just saying that, heh. I haven't decided on my second recommendation letter, but the one woman I've asked attended Princeton and will be doing a fantastic job.

And would I have a fairly good shot if I applied ED?
| By Phantom (Phantom) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 01:12 pm: Edit |
I think you'd have a fair shot. I would suggest however, that if you take Math IIC, you should aim for 750+ because the percentiles are so harsh. A 780 already puts you at the 80th percentile, I believe.

oh i have a question.
my stats were at the first post on this page, with the international smart student from Hong Kong. i forgot to meniton that my ACT was a 35.
i plan to apply to Princeton, MIT, Stanford, columbia, cornell, rutgers. i've decided to apply to all schhols RD. could you please evaluate my chances. I think i may be able to get away with the ACT becaues the other applications accept the ACT so i would be able to put it on the Princeton Application.
