Hello guys pls help me out a bit here!
I'm a student from Hong Kong.. here are my stats...what are my chances of getting into Columbia?
Since the edu system in hk is quite diff. from that in the US, I take only five subjects, each of which are similar to the British "A"-levels. Hopefully my teachers will have the following predictions of my grades:
Physics A
Chemistry A
Pure Mathematics A
I will take the SAT 1 the coming June, and I think I will get a 1450.
My SAT2s are as follows:
Physics 800
Chemistry 800
Math iic 800
My HKCEEs (equivalent to British GCSEs)
English A
Math A
Additional math A
Physics A
Biology A
Economics A
Chem B
Accounting B
Chinese D
I do well(academically) in school so hopefully my teachers will write good recommendations for me. My ECAs are modest:Health ambassador(chief) of the school; I take part in the Speech Festival in which I have to read a story or a poem (which I enjoy so much!) every year and I got fairly good results. I'm monitor of my class (responsible for collecting stuff and helping my teacher out, but on top of that I enjoy the job so much: I do extra things for the class; I may write about them in my essays. I play the Piano (only grade 5 though) and my favourite sport is tennis (play with my dad every week)... and recently I got a phone call from my high school saying that they were going to nominate me for the Rensselaer Medal for Math and science (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute). Chairman of a club in school (which is responsible for Morning Assemblies)... to get the general idea I'm not particularly active in my ECAs but I do a lot of trivial things such as being the emcee of our speech day (but I see a lot in them), I think what makes me special is what I see in them and this helps me write my essays...
PS. academically I'm ranked the top tenth percent of my class (of 120, where only 30 take exactly the same subjects as I do; among these thirty I rank third). I have been ranked among the top 5 per cent throughout HS. I will be doing some research with a prof in a local university this year.
