I am taking a survey. If you are an '08 admit or current student, does your high school give class rank? I want to see the real world effect class ranking has on admission. Thank you in advance.

lovingdad...
I have a kid who is a '08 admit, ranked 1/154.

But I mostly am posting to tell you that at Brown's website, in the admissions section, there is a spreadsheet regarding profiles of past admitted classes and it shows the percentage of admits with certain class ranks. That might help you.

The people who post on this forum are not representative of everyone who applies--or is admitted to--Brown or any other Ivy League school. As such, you probably won't amass any really useful information simply by polling on here. Why not just look at the stats that Brown publishes?

I did indeed checked out Brown's admission profile and found among the admits that 1.4 high school rank their students for evey 1.0 high school that does not rank. Before you read too much into this, it could be the fact more high schools rank their students than not. Keep your input coming!

Lovingdad, did you go to ADOCH? At the welcoming address for parents, where both the president of the university and the director of admissions spoke.....the admissions director gave some interesting "stats" about the admitted class. I wish I could recall the figure for you, but a very large percentage of the admitted class were in the top 5% of their high school class, and that was stated without counting the many kids who attend schools where there is no rank. I don't recall the figure now, but it was a very large majority of the class that had ranks in the top 5%.

Otherwise, there is the data on Brown's site.
