Why should someone go to Brown instead of the Honors Program at UVA? The money will be the same (grants from Brown). This is for an English or languages major.

The Echols Program and Brown's undergraduate program are almost identical. Both give a student free reign to craft their own education and both promise advising which is "agressive and not merely available." The chief difference is, of course, that Echols is a program within a university, while Brown is a university unto itself.

Consequently, the real decision here appears to be whether you want to attend UVA or Brown. In my mind UVA is a bit like what Dartmouth might be if it was larger, state-run and had better weather. I would pick Brown, but then, I am also a notorious Brown troll.
