By Alina (Alina) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 04:23 pm: Edit

I called and the adcom said that they mailed the letters thursday afternoon, so basically everyone in NY/NJ should get the acceptances tomorrow. And whoever doesnt get the acceptances in those two states, is most likely waitlisted/rejected because this is what happened early decision.

By Smrcool23 (Smrcool23) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 07:53 pm: Edit

I'm in NC, and I got my duke acceptance priority mail the day after they sent them out. then again duke is only two hours away from where i live and princeton is significantly farther, so im guessing two days

Iridescenthope said it right. I just want CLOSURE. Then it will OFFICIALLY be OVER. Gosh, what is SO wrong with emailing notices?

By ally on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 08:38 pm: Edit

no letter in nm...we'll probably be the last ones. but i got into harvard

By Ct04 (Ct04) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 08:58 pm: Edit

Projected guess based on talking to friends:
Most of New England and the Midatlantic should hear by tomorrow, especially those who got in. Hell, I'm surprised more people didn't hear today.
Midwest and South: Sat/Monday for accepted, Mon/Tuesday rejected
West: Same as Midwest probably, especially since the big mail haulers do work on sundays and would probably make it cross coast.

By Soozievt (Soozievt) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 09:04 pm: Edit

The theory or statements on here that they mail acceptances before rejections, or by a faster mail delivery method.....might not be true cause if you look at the posts from the kids who got mail from Princeton today (all in NJ it seems), they include both acceptances and rejections.

Since we know acceptance packages are being sent with FedEx, I found this tool to be pretty useful:

FedEx's Transit Time predictor

Check it out. If you want to. I did and now I'm like super scared. So maybe it's better if you don't check it out at all.

By Alina (Alina) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 11:25 am: Edit

why are you scared?

does the mailman stick the package in the mailbox or does he come to give it personally?

By Mzhang23 (Mzhang23) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 11:48 am: Edit

It'll get stuck in your mailbox if it fits.

By Blah1111 (Blah1111) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 11:50 am: Edit

Is that a pun on the word "stuck," or should we interpret that as if it answered Whosereality's question?

He means that if your mailbox is large enough to hold the package, the mailman will put it in there; if not, he will come to your door.

By the way, are you RD people getting anything more than the ivory folder with the docs inside? I'm curious to see when we'll start getting housing + OA stuff.

I got my letter today (rejected) - upstate NY. I assume everyone else around here got theirs, too.

I'm bummed, but I think I'll go to the playground and swing or something. I don't want it to ruin my weekend.

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 12:56 pm: Edit

Crap, no freakin letter today. I got almost no sleep last night, so nervous, this decision is really important to me. It was slightly behind Harvard for my first choice, but I was rejected there. Yale I was waitlisted, but I got in Columbia and MIT. So my life isn't over if I don't get in, but I REALLY wanna go to Princeton. But I have a good story to cheer up some of you... my teacher's daughter's best friend got her Princeton decision (acceptance) one day, and the daughter was afraid she was rejected because they live five minutes apart. So the teacher/mom takes the daughter shopping to cheer her up the next day, they get home and there is a thick acceptance envelope from Princeton in the mail box. So, sometimes you just don't get the mail. Mailmen are LAZY. They aren't required to deliver mail as quickly as possible. Also, on the news they did a study of regular mail vs. priority and to the embarassment of the USPS, regular was faster than priority VERY REGULARLY. So, you just never know.

Anyway I am disappointed and angry that I didn't get the letter, but I'd much rather get in Monday than rejected today so I'm just praying that it'll turn out for the best Monday... BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE.

waitlisted here in RI.

By Soozievt (Soozievt) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 01:38 pm: Edit

My daughter got waitlisted and is pretty happy about that! She has other schools she was accepted at that she loves so this was not do or die but getting waitlisted was an affirmation that her application was done well. She may put in for the waitlist consideration, as they have taken kids in the past. She is happy with the results she had this season.

I am posting to let you know that this waitlist mail came to Vermont today.

By Coolnessitself (Coolnessitself) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 01:42 pm: Edit

grw - yeah, same here. It was common knowledge that Yale was my #1 and everyone was convinced I would get in. Deferred EA, but everyone was still convinced. Rejected for regular, and everyoine asked "if YOU didnt get in, who DID?"..that kind of thing. Then all the other rejections started rolling in. Its really disappointing, especially because of all the work put in in the last 4 years didn't pay off. At all. Unless Princeton comes through magically, I'm stuck at UFl.
Its good to know someone else is going through the same thing as me - somehow, thats a comfort.

Iska, while Princeton's financial aid may be $50 more, did Harvard also give you all grants and work study? Keep in mind that with loans, you have to pay them off later, whereas everyone emerges debt-free from Princeton.

I'm interested in how other schools compare with Princeton aid.

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 03:35 am: Edit

None of my friends (I fall under the catagory of MS, AL, or GA) received anything today, positive or negative. I am not as worried as I was this morning (although it certainly wasn't a GOOD sign to not get anything today), because California people have already gotten both acceptances and rejections. I think someone at a post office somewhere between Princeton and my house just got really lazy. Monday we should all receive our decisions be they acceptances or rejections. No decision Monday probably means rejection but the post office is just so bad I wouldn't lose all hope. Remember my story: I know someone who received an acceptance letter the day after her best friend and neighbor received her acceptance letter, so you just never know.

By Idonno123 (Idonno123) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 03:41 am: Edit

runningwolf - you sure? i'm extremely concerned about this because my neighbor got her letter and no one else around her has heard antyhing.....

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 04:11 am: Edit

Am I sure about what? I definitely didn't say anything incorrect in my post.

By the way (yes I realize this is a little obsessive), the USPS website says that priority mail arrives in "an AVERAGE of 2-3 days..." so 3 days isn't even guarenteed! Of course if it goes past 3 days it isn't a good sign, but it's certainly possible.

By EuroGuy on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 05:19 am: Edit

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 03:48 pm: Edit

The story is definitely true about the girl who got hers the day after. Is it a GOOD sign that you didn't get a letter? No, of course not. But does it mean all hope is lost? Certainly not... the USPS is just really bad sometimes - the letters aren't even guarenteed to get there in 2-3 days. People in CA are getting rejections already, yet people in NC and OH and IL haven't even gotten any acceptances, which just shows the random nature of the mail. I have not given up hope, I am going to stay optimistic until I see the letter or hopefully massive package!

Got the acceptance Saturday in Florida =)

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 12:29 am: Edit

I called around to some of my friends from both my school and other schools today. No one from my school has heard anything (I talked to four of the applicants, and I would be a little surprised if none of us were accepted). Also no one from a neighboring private school of exceptional quality has heard anything, rejection or acceptance. I just think the chances that no one from either school was accepted are slim. Therefore, I am still very hopeful.

i got waitlisted! Actually, i'm even happy that I got even that. After rejections from H and Y, I just prayed to GOD that there would at least be A chance for me. Princeton has always been my first choice. Although I applied EA to H, I always remained by my resolve that Princeton was my first choice. I told all my recommenders that I wanted Princeton more than almost anything and that the only reason I was applying to H early was b/c of Princeton's ED policy (my parents are scared of the word "binding") and now I feel kinda weird. I'm a bit of a dreamer. I visited all 3 colleges and always I felt I belonged at Princeton, can't explain it. In my group info session, I had a special experience with the admissions officer, then with the receptionist. I can still remember every single word she said to me. Omg. I swear. I've never felt like this. i'm gonna go cry right now... NO matter what happens, I'll always love Princeton the most.

Know of any waitlisters who are NOT sending in the card? any admits who won't go?

How are chances on the waitlist? It says that in the past years they had from like 27,9,0,31,76 (respectively) people taken off the waitlist and that there are usually a couple hundred (how many exactly?) on the waitlist. ANyone know the intricate details about the process? It says it's not ranked, and that they do reconvening committees. How should I approach getting myself off? It says not to send extra stuff unless it's late breaking. Should I send some stuff like my new quarter grades or final grades or notification of my admittance into other schools (not necessarily acceptances, but like who I got likely letters from and how many and who offered me scholarships. For ex.: I got selected as a finalist for a very prestigious natl. schol and I think they might be interested) or how I got promoted to higher leadership positions mid-yr? A new essay? ANyone know anyone who actually got off the waitlist?

please help. I feel like at this point, I'd do anything to get off the waitlist.

Waitlisted after ED deferral

Got letter today in Dallas - several of my friends also received waitlists/rejections today but haven't heard of any acceptances - seems like they were all received on Saturday.

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 12:03 am: Edit

I was waitlisted.

1550, 800 IIC, 800 Writing, 790 Chem
2/275 rank
One B in HS, mostly high A's
All state track runner is 75% of my EC's

However, I would like to think I have a good chance on the waitlist. The track coach explicitly stated that he is going to write me a very strong letter of recommendation, so I am really hopeful... I have received several new important honors since I sent in my application, so I will update the admissions office with those. I definitely still want to go to Princeton. Two other people at my school were rejected (one with 1600, the other had already gotten in Yale), so I feel somewhat fortunate just to be waitlisted. But worst comes to worst, I'm off to MIT or Columbia.

my scores weren't that great at all:

1560, 800 writing, 800 bio, 780 math2c
class rank is top 5%, but near the bottom edge i think
but i have a lot of ECs, so I guess that's where they differentiated (not to mention the pure randomness in the process lol)

Math 1C 800
Writing 770

ACT 35 -- 36 on math part
Great extras, great letters and essays # 1 in his class, 5's on all AP tests. Physics major. He's happy, but I don't get it. Some kids that got in aren't even close to his scores! My son is very lucky he got into Yale. I'm very sorry for those kids that are exceptionally qualified and just can't get into these schools. It really is a kind of a crapshoot!

I was waitlisted, which continues to surpise me, considering my academic record pales in comparison to some of the people who were posted their rejections here. Does this bode well for in terms of eventually getting in? Thanks.
