How did everyone do first semester?

My GPA dropped a little, how much will that affect my chances?

How much is a little?

i did pretty well for my final 1st semester marks (we are on block schedule) but i'm pretty damn mad that I missed an entire question on my physics final (there were only like 15)... oh well I ended up with 97% anyway :D

I have taken all honors and AP classes throughout high school and got only 1 B in AP Language. This semester I got B's in AP US History and AP Calculus BC.

My UW/W went from 3.98/4.70 to 3.94/4.68

With all APs, got 4 As and 2 A-s...GPA dropped a bit.

i messed up this semester! how bad are 3 b's going to kill my chances? (in physics, ap calc, ap stat!)

At first I thought you guys were talking about first semester grades at Cornell lol

I got 4.0's both semesters of my senior year and 7 out of 8 semesters overall in high school. I imagine that you'll see a big drop from HS to Cornell GPA. Received a 3.92 in my first semester at Cornell which isn't bad.

3.82 this sem at cornell for me

"Received a 3.92 in my first semester at Cornell which isn't bad." - haha that's amazing and you know it.

i don't know how, but i had teh highest average in my school for this term. I had AP Physics, AP Stat, AP Macro Econ, and Government. With a 99.00 average on my midyear report, I'm sure my mid-year grades will be an important factor.

Question: Into the second term of senior year, we usually get letter grades to see how you are doing (1st of 3 report cards, the 3rd one being final numbers). If I get all E's, should i send them in to my 16 schools near the middle of march?

I think everyone who has posted here will be fine-- only a dramatic drop in grades will affect your chance of admission.

By Sunshine916 (Sunshine916) on Sunday, February 08, 2004 - 07:40 pm: Edit

aghhh went from straight A's and A+'s, to half A's and half A-'s. nothing dramatic. still A's. a bit mad at myself. oh well. i took 6 AP's and 1 regular class (latin 2) so i'll deal.

ap physics c - a/b+
ap english - b+/b+
ap calc ab - a+/a+
ap statistics a/a+
H. math research a+/a+
adv. french communications - a+/a+
economics a+/a+
orchestra a+/a+

i'm a little worried bout droppin to a b+ in physics -- i wrote my essays about making a serious improvement from c's in prior years, and this kinda negates it. applying to engineering. my gpa is consistent from 1st quarter though because i went up in stat.

I went up, from 99.3 to 100.5... awesome :) It's unweighted in case people couldn't figure it out lol

1st Quarter/2nd Quarter/Semester
AP Physics C - A+/A/A+
AP Calc BC - A/A+/A+
AP Lit - B+/B+/B+
AP Art History - B+/B+/B+
Here come the down two
AP Com. Sci - A+/A-/A- (AAARRGH!!! REDICULOUS!! ONLY ONE THAT BOTHERS ME!! ITS BS!)
AP Euro - A/B/B+ (kinda deserved that...:b)

By Blah1111 (Blah1111) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 10:27 am: Edit

1st Quarter/1st Semester
AP Lit - B/A-
AP Econ - A/A-
AP Stat - A-/A
AP Phys C - A/A-
AP Bio - B+/A-
Luckily, minuses and pluses don't show up on the transcript, and neither do first quarter grades.

By Theiceman (Theiceman) on Monday, February 09, 2004 - 10:42 pm: Edit

Semester:

AP Eng. Lit - B
AP Phys. C - A-
AP US Gov't & Pol. - A-
AP Calc BC - A
AP Span. Lang. & Lit. - A

No pluses in my school. Should've improved in English, but I got pretty lazy first quarter. Still possible to get A- for the year.

You'll all probably do very well your first semester here at Cornell. There's so much grade inflation! One math professor told the class at the beginning of the semester that he "expected" the class median to be a B+. At the end of the semester, the one student who scored less than 50% on the final ended up with a B- while the rest of the class received grades of B to A+. Can you believe that not one single student received a C? So much for the rigorous grading of Cornell!

By Scarletgirl (Scarletgirl) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 10:50 pm: Edit

Now I'm confused. Does the school HAVE to average 1st and 2nd quarter grades and a midterm? My school sends 1st and 2nd quarter grades individually, without the midterm grade.

By Scarletgirl (Scarletgirl) on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 - 10:55 pm: Edit

1st quarter/2nd quarter
ap bio A/A
ap calc A/A-
ap french A/A
ap physics B+/A- (really mad about my phys grades, totally my fault though)
ap english A-/B+ (even madder about this, but i feel the teach had a hand in this)
