How many people were accepted early at Princeton? I know its applicants were down about a third (2400 last year to 1800 year) but those numbers could be wrong. I think its early rate is usually 33%. Is it possible that Princeton took close to 50% of applicants early?

Yes. Last year pton took about 50% of its class early.

Anything could happen, but I'd be willing to bet a dollar that there were fewer than 400 acceptances this year, given that the pool was down from 2300 to 1800 or so. A proportionate decline would have lowered the ED admits by 125 or so, and thats assuming that the remaining apps were of equal quality to those from last year. You have to guess that quite a few of the apps they didnt get were extremely high stats applicants who opted for the chance to apply to more than one school instead of the chance to commit to PU.

Also, if you consider that Stanford and Yales early people are not locked up there, it makes sense to leave more room to go after them.

Finally, since Fred Hargadon created the precedent of not disclosing what he did ED last year, and since Ms Rapelye is new to this side of the business, I think it is somewhat likely that she will also not disclose what has been done.

A very small amount.

Janet Rapelye is certainly an experienced admissions dean. And she has already been more forthcoming than Fred Hargadon, in that she chose to disclose the number of early applications.
