Given the money involved, there would have to be a very strong reason besides general reputation of the schools for you to turn down Duke. What do you want to study?

duke.
did you get the AB scholarship? If so, i'd definitely go. it's VERY prestigious. if not, i'd still go
Duke's a great school ^_^

uh, no question at all! FREE college at a top university is not something to turn down. Go to Duke!

I would go to Duke. There isn't that much disparity between them. Duke could even be better depending on your major.

sondogg - read this article from the atlantic monthly...it might change your opinion on Duke. http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/2001/09/flanagan.htm

definitely duke. i mean, you have all four years of college paid off, not a thing to worry about! and duke is one of the best schools in the nation so it really wont make a difference if you go to stanford education-wise. go to duke and use the money you were going to pay for college to buy a new car!

I vote for Duke. The money you save will pay for grad school.
BTW - thanks for the atlantic monthly link, Jules. I found it very interesting.

SAT I: 1520 (770v/750m)
SAT II: 800 writing, 800 math iic, 730 literature, 710 biology-m
AP: 5 Statistics, 5 Comp. Sci A. (7 AP classes by graduation + 1 independant study)
Awards:
-Intel STS semifinalist for fluid mechanics paper (I was the only person in my school's history to ever enter the Intel STS)
-National Merit Finalist (234 PSAT)

Scholarships like this are just like the admissions process. It requires a large element of luck, I believe.

i received a university scholarship from duke. It was pretty much just based on the application and an interview. I think that is where I am going, however, and am happy at the prospect. and to kind of respond to jules, i read the article, and the part about duke students being apathetic may be true, but i am one to constantly question teachers, so maybe i can add a bit of color (literally and figuratively) to the school...my only problem with it is that it is a lot like the community i live in now: conservative, rich, christian, and very caucasian with lots and lots of alcohol. I wanted to escape, and it looks like im headed to the same thing.

Sondogg,
The article is interesting. But don't be discouraged. The author may actually be a little biased because she worked for Duke, so she knew all the shortcomings. You don't ever have to be conformed by your environment. The town of Durham is not that rich, and I am sure there are other students at Duke that do not fit that general description.

what types of questions did they ask you at the interview for AB
