Did anyone get into the Ivies and/or top 25 schools with a 1420 SAT score who is not a URM, recruited athlete, and does not have extraordinary ECs?
If SAT II scores are high(750+), would they make up for a 1420 SAT score?
thanks

At any top 25 school? Sure indeed. Plenty of people with scores like that got into the big public schools that are in the top 25. For example, I believe the average SAT score at UCLA (ranked #25) was something like 1350. I believe the average score at the University of Michigan (ranked #22) is also somewhere in the 1300's.

I believe a kid with a 1420 most definitely can and does get accepted to the most selective colleges, including Ivies. It is the whole package, not just the SATs. As you say you have SAT2 scores also in the 700s. If you put all that together with a high GPA with most demanding courses, good class rank, significant achievements, solid committed ECs and great recs, the 1420 would work just fine. If you look at the SAT ranges of accepted students as published in any directory, for a particular Ivy or top school, you will see that the range includes scores with 1420 at all these schools, so yes, these kids get accepted. Obviously there is way more to it than the scores alone. But those scores do indeed fall into the range of accepted students. The odds may be greater for a student with 1500 than a student with 1400, but students with 1400 still get accepted.

My brother got into Brown with a 1380. It happens. He also got into Dartmouth, but he's a legacy there, so I guess you'd discount that.

I think youre underestimating yourself, man. Most top colleges average scores are 1400-1450. That means half of the school has below that. And half a school wont be atheletes, legacies and minortiies.

most schools don't have even 10% minorities, so plenty of people obviously had to get in with scores in the 50% range, athletes also only make up so much, and legacies at some schools only count ed (such as upenn) or there isn't much emphasis on it (like stanford), i think people feel like only "tagged" applicants can have scores in/below the range

Can you get into the Ivies with a 1420...without legacy status/athlete status/URM status/great EC's? I hate to say the answer is no. Obviously kids with 1420's get in, but they generally have something else going for them (i.e. URM, EC's, etc.)
As for the rest of the top 25...yes, you could get in with a 1420 (excluding Stanford, MIT, Caltech, the "top" of the top 25).

you should probably have some ECs. i know non-URM but superb artists/designers who get into Brown with 1100s.

...but he probably had insanely good extracurriculars.

nope, not boast but his ECs are worse than mine.

not to be mean soulofheaven, but he probably had some ECs or personality traits that impressed people. you didn't get into brown or yale with your stats and you claim to have great ECs...

Friend's daughter got into UPenn with a 1380 SAT I, 3.8 GPA, decent but not exceptional extracurriculars...applied ED though.

lol, you misunderstood me. I meant to say that my ECs are bad and his ECs are even worse. We use to kid each other all the time about how we got into our colleges with the sort of ECs we have.

1420 obviously qualifies you for ivy or top 25. however i doubt you'll be getting in if you don't have extraordinary ec's or a hook.
