can you send in all of your stuff EXCEPT for the application fee in october/november, and then the app fee in december? so if you are applying ED somewhere, you dont have to send in your application fees for all the other schools until you find out you werent accepted ED?

hmmm...
i would send in my app fee when the deadline is for the app. Just make sure, you do not miss the deadline. It's really no big deal. Admission officers do not sit around checking to see if you send in ur checks. It's just that when it's time to read ur files, they would see if u completed all of the required materials.

Some schools will allo you to send in the pre-application paperwork but usually are expecting you to also send the fee. At most places, you are not considered an applicant until you pay the fee and that is when they make the file for you. I would suggest waiting until you hear from your ED school because what happens if your paperwork is lost or misplaced because you have not "officially" applied.
If you are applying ED, just have all of your other stuff ready in the event that you get deferred or rejected. If either of those happen, then write your checks and drop your applications in the mail the same day.
All the best
