College Discussion Forums: College Admissions: School forms, teacher recs. for applications...

I have a question for those of you experienced with the college application process.

Where, if anywhere, is it stated that a student or parent MAY NOT be privy to the information that a school is sending out about a student. My child is planning on applying early action to an ivy league school. His gifted teacher has insinuated that everything that comes out of the school is to be confidential, and yet, the guidance counselor at the same school seemed to indicate that this is not necessarily true.

We live in an area that STRONGLY supports applying to LACs, to the exclusion of anything else. My son feels that his choice to apply out of state is largely unsupported by the school in general and by the Gifted teacher specifically.

Would it be legal/ethical/appropriate for me to request to see the completed forms before they are released (not to request changes to them, of course! *lol*).

Just wondering how many people get to see the school forms before they are sent to the colleges. And I'm wondering if there is any confidentiality statement on those forms that would preclude that. Thanks! ~berurah

O.K., I see a post below that pertains to this. Now the question...how does a school KNOW if a student has or has NOT seen the paperwork? And did anyone figure out where to sign a waiver on the common app.? Thanks! ~berurah
