Maybe at first sight this is an easy question to answer.
However I'm in a spot in which I see several people really wanting to go to a selective school, specifically UNC. I want to apply there too, but I fear that UNC has some sort of a quota for our high school, and if I get in, this other person who seems to be much more enthusiastic about wanting to go there will not get in.
I don't really know what to do. I'd like to apply there, but I don't know if I will go there, and it's not my first choice school, but it is definitely a place I wouldn't mind going to. . .stll, I really don't know what to do. . .
I cringe thinking of that hypothetical in which I got in and this other person didn't. How heart broken they'd be. . .
It weighs heavily on my conscience.
What do you guys think?

Apply to the schools you want. The schools know how interested someone is and often at our school kids who get into very selective schools may not get into a less selective one that kids with lower stats do get into. Make your decision independent of others although it is admirable that you are considering your classmates. My S ended up liking the schools that were not necessarily first on his list as his priorities and major changed as the college process evolved. Keep your options open and cast your net wide.
