Oxford, definitely. No idea about tuition; but if money's not a problem... hot british men!

The women however, i hear, are ugly.

Hey Demiurge,

Are you advising Jules to go to Oxford based on "hot british men!" that you "hear" about, while stating that women are ugly, which you, as well, only "hear" about?

What kind of lame advice is that? If you don't have any relevant information about either university, you'd be better off not "advicing."
This is how schools get bad/good names that they don't deserve. Based on people who dare give advice on them based on their own ignorance.

Both Oxoford and Harvard are excellent, prominent universities. I don't know which one is better than the other, so I would advice Jules to get input about these schools from someone who can advice based on the academics and rigor of each school, not on the hotness of half of the student body that someone happened to hear about, god knows where.

Jules,

To which college have you been accepted and for which course? Personally, I would go to Oxford. The intellectual rigour (yes, notice the spelling...im a brit) of Oxford matches Harvard, and both have beautiful campuses and a thriving undergraduate community. Basically, if you have the ability (which you obviously do), you will have a fantastic time at both.

However, you will have the chance to experience the greatness of Oxford only once! Take it! Harvard has many excellent graduate schools which you will qualify for.

Having said that, you will have such a good time at both...are you an American/UK citizen?

Oook...some nerds just can't take their noses out of their SAT books long enough to take a joke.

Btw, i was referring to England, not just Oxford.

that's hilarious. Hildegard, did you actually think demiurge was serious??

Harvard's far better in terms of resources, research and staff. But if you're American, and can afford it, I'd go to Oxford. The college system's fun; the girls are pretty, just outnumbered.

I am sooooo offended!!!!! I'm a British girl with a place at Oxford for October 2003 so I am understandably p'd off!!!!! No, seriously, I have visited both Harvard and Oxford, and although both are incredibly beautiful and prestigious, I felt that the atmosphere at Oxford was much more scholarly; it's fantastic to think that as a student there I will become part of a 1000 year learning tradition. Of course it depends what subject you are going to study - for strictly academic subjects such as philosophy, history, sciences etc I would recommend Oxford. For business, law, medicine etc Harvard is probably the better option. Also, if you're from outside the European Union (which I assume you are) Oxford will be very pricey, but there is a strong contingent of American students there. It's your call.

Houw about if you're based in the European Union. My family is based in Germany, but I'm an American Citizen. Should I pay the foreign tuition fee or the EU fee?

How about Classics? Isn't the real question,"Overall, is Harvard the world's premier univ., or is Oxford?" Harvard may be more academically rigorous, but Oxford is much more socially elite, and prestigious.
