Hi everyone,
I got into Sarah Lawrence College!!!!!!!
I have to take one continuing education course and if I get a C or above my place is guaranteed and I would matriculate in the spring!
Is this a good place for a writer? I have never been there, but I am supposed to be going there this summer for a one week writing conference (which earns me one GRADUATE ;) credit) I am living in California now and am scared to move across the country. I've done some research and it seems SLC is pretty flexible as far as requirements, etc. Any thoughts? I like that it's 75% female.

It has one of the best writing programs in the country, Movingonup. There is a thread in the Individual Colleges folder (alphabetical listing) on SLC.
My daughter was accepted also, but the financial aid offered was so low I don't know that she will be going. Their FA is incredibly INflexible.

The continuing ed office said I could take four classes and did qualify for some CE financial aid and a payment plan.
What ticks me off is when I matriculate, they are going to need my parents' papers. My father makes $76,000 in an average year. I will be almost 25 come spring and I don't even speak to my dad. They made it sound on the phone like it was not negotiable despite my age. My mother is on disability/alimony and makes $17,000 a year and also lives off her student loans and financial aid. My parents are putting my younger brother through school (likely UCLA or UCSB). I guess I will just have to get a job and apply like crazy for scholarships.
I made a whopping $5700 in 2002 due to illness. This year I have made $150. My parents have outright refused to provide me any money for a private college. My mother did help me pay out $1000 for 2 UCLA regular classes that I am taking now. We both sold some old books and DVDs, and an extra computer. But she says she is tired of me and she's done. She thinks I should graduate from a low-tiered state school and get over it and move on.
I don't EXPECT or even WANT my parents to pay for it. I screwed up, but it irritates me that SLC will calculate my package based on parents who refuse to pay. Plus I am over the age of independence.

Well, doesn't Larisa Oleynik go to SLC?

Hopefully, they will evaluate your expected contribution differently than dependent students if you are independent as defined by their guidelines, Movingonup. SLC financial aid was remarkably intransigent when I spoke with them (several times) about our situation, which also includes a parent who makes much $$, but refuses to contribute accordingly.
It is the most expensive LAC in the country, and keeps going up.
