Ugh, the title of the topic got cut off. its supposed to say:
Short Essay responses to "why I want to be a [insert profession here]?"
Anywho
Just about every college application asks for a short essay for something like "Why do you want to be an engineer?" or "Why do you want to be a nurse?" or whatever. I'm just a curious to read what some other people wrote.
And just so you know, I'm not some future applicant looking to leech off other people's essays for my own app. I already got into MIT so I'm set. It's just that I've never read any essay responses to this question besides my own, and it'll be interesting to see how other people go about answering this question.
Don't ask me why I find reading college essays to be entertaining. I'm weird like that.
NO CRITIQUES PLEASE.
Post post away.

i'll start...
"What attracts you to the study of engineering?"
Compelling are the studies of history, from the ancient crusades to modern politics, but the true measure of humankind's progress has little to do with wars and empires; it is the evolution of man's capacity to achieve great things that pushes us forward. The great gaps of history are bridged not by philosophers or political revolutions, but by great minds thinking as engineers to push the limits of our knowledge and abilities.
Today, we live in a wonderland world built on technology. Our civilization is a testament to man's brilliance and commitment to innovation. Raised by this hi-tech world, my fascination with circuit boards and software developed early on. In the eighth grade, I could recite every single specification for my PC because I built it myself from the bare components. As I grew older, I sunk my mind into understanding the fundamentals of how different types of high-end technology function. If you wanted me to explain absolutely everything about how the internet works, from the technology behind mobile web to how online security systems can protect the most sensitive of information, I could practically teach my own course. My interest piques every time I hear about new advancements in the hi-tech industry.
Long before Advanced Placement courses, SAT's, and personal essays crossed my desk, I was determined to be a pioneer in the quickly expanding technological world. To this day, I maintain the same dream. As a prospective entrepreneur, I know that fervent ambition and a boundless faith in the future of technology can take me only so far. A solid engineering education will give me the technical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to begin realizing my goals. With the power to innovate at my fingertips, I will no longer be limited to simply reading about the technologies of the future.
