it seems like a fair question in these times were everybody is so stressed. is it really worth it? what do you think about this? do you acknowledge that there is life out of college, is not the only way. I am just curious if you have anything good, an experience or comments thank you

College for most people is one of the greatest investments they'll ever make.

it can also be a pinful mistake. you can invest all that money you have and create your own company. people sell us the idea of college because it is a business. we dont need a degree to tell us we are educated, one way or another with or without a diploma we still have the same skills and abilities, college does not provides us with happiness. we can be a well rounded- educated janitor without help of college. hey college is good , but is not the only option, its not the end of the world if we miss one semester, so what if we have a 2.0 gpa? the important thing is that we learn the stuff for life right? yeah right

I totally disagree. You will gain many new skills and knowledge in college. I don't know about you, but I wasn't born with the knowledge of how to repair an airplane engine or how to diagnose a disease. I agree that if your life dream is to become a janitor, then you probably don't need college for that. But for the rest of us, college is the right choice to make.

There are options. You could become an entrepenour, start your own successful business and become rich -- and you can count the number of people you will ever personally know who succed in doing that on one hand. You can seek and become satisfied with all the jobs for which a high school education is all that is needed. That is still actually the majority of the population and many are satisfied even though they make little. There are tech schools which many pursue but that is a short hand form of college.
So, unless you are already independently wealthy, the option left is college. For most, being there is a lot less stressful than what they go through to get there. Basically, between the ages of 18 and 22 and for many beyond that age, you get to go away to a community where you have no parents, everyone around you is the same age as you are and they are all single, your only job is to go to class 15 to 16 hours a week and study 20 or so hours (some do more, many less), and you get to spend huge amounts of time discussing the meaning of life, and, when not doing so, partying your brains out. To me, for those in that age group, that beats the hell out of working a 9-5 job instead.

wealth you say? what do you have to say when you have a college debt that makes u take a white collar job you dont like. what if you want to go to small communities and combat the diseases? you cant because you have debt to pay. is that a great way to start your working life? pure learning can occur without the assiatnce of college. you may go into the web and researcjh on how to repare an airplane, even better you can go to a mechanic and experience that first hand; without a boring teacher telling you all the theory. college have transformed into career training factories, what about the liberal art education. if you want to party you can do that every weekened without having to pay too much. you can get friends with your same interest without eveb opening your wallet! cheers!

Kojikabuto, I'm not going to be engaged in stupid arguments. But if you don't want to go to college, be my guest.

is not a stupid argument, many books have been written over this, you should try reading " college is a waste of time and money" by caroline byrd if you feel part of the intelligentsia. of course i am in college and i have my reasons why. i just chose this topic because it is obviously a good one to discuss in a forum of open minden college students right? if you cant support your arguments or have a nice talk is not my fault, just because im talking of this it doesnt means i agree with it.
