Valedictorian (out of 32), 4.2 gpa, SAT V610, M760
BGCA/Keystone President, Youth of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Chairman Model UN, SCA Secretary/Parliamentarian, 4-H Technology Founder & President (attended national conference), Korea Regional Technology Leader, JROTC Battalion Commander, AP Scholar, and so on.
My resume was what got me in. I volunteered alot and worked throughout all of my summers amassing a very impressive, comprehensive 3-page resume. I have alot more crap than that. I received a reco from a Dr. from Cornell, I'm strong in technology and have superior leadership skills.
Oh and another thing I took 7 AP Courses when my school only offered 3 and did well on the exams receiving AP Scholar award as an underclassman. I took over the amount through distance learning and motivation. I exceeded expectations and took advantage of EVERY SINGLE thing my community and school could offer.
I'm strong on extra-curricular also. Done volleyball, soccer, wrestling, tennis, and so on each 2-4 years commitment. I've received an All-Conference Award for volleyball and team MVP. Basically I am a perfect fit for the Scholar-Leader-Athlete (SAL) criteria and have been offered 4-year full ride scholarships from the Navy and Army (waiting on Air Force).
What I listed isn't even half my story. =)

Nyrules, I was deferred ED because of my 1250 SAT score, I only took the damn test TWICE and my second time I acheived a 1370 and I didn't study that hard for the test, which I regret. But Cornell is my first choice anyway!
Also by RD, I had even more things accumulated and slapped my resume with a cover letter on resume paper. That sure as hell impressed them, I know it.
By Nyrules (Nyrules) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 10:00 am: Edit
the chosen - It seems like you were most certainly qualified for Cornell and I am glad that you were accepted. Hopefully I will see you there next year - I guess I will find out within the next 2 weeks.
By Mitacceptee (Mitacceptee) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 10:48 am: Edit
The Chosen-- You are gay. Cornell is not that hard to get into.
By ~the_Chosen~ (~the_Chosen~) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 11:58 am: Edit
If you have an extremely outstanding record like 99.9% of the people on this board do, then of course it won't be "hard to get into." Cornell was my objective and I've made it. If I would've made any other college my objective, then I would've made that too.
Cornell may be the "easiest ivy to get into" but it is definitely the hardest to stay into. One reason behind the admissions is because of the damn undergraduate SIZE. Compare it to the rest of the ivies...*rolleyes*
That's right, shut your trap. around 20,000 people apply and if Cornell has to fill in 1,000 seats instead of 3,000, what happens to the selectivity?
By Cru (Cru) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 12:12 pm: Edit
This is what I think of Cornell...
Cornell may be the easiest ivy to get into, but in the real world I believe that Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, UPENN, and maybe even Columbia are treated equally. It doesn't matter what we, high school students, think... Sure, some other ivy league students might bash Cornell. So what? Cornell is respected as much as other ivies in the real world. So in the long turn, it doesn't matter!!! End of discussion
By ~the_Chosen~ (~the_Chosen~) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 01:17 pm: Edit
The Ivy League is the Ivy League, just MIT scrubs trying to bash on Cornell...haha =P
Read that book "Up your score"? Why did Manek Mistry and Paul Rossi attend Cornell University instead of any other college? Because Cornell rules!! BIG RED!!! =D
By Mattymatt (Mattymatt) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 01:56 pm: Edit
Why does every student accepted to cornell feel the need to defend and boast its academic reputation? Seldom do you find students at other ives on such an extreme deffensive. The only logical conclusion that can be drawn from that is deep within you are insecure about the validity of the claims. You want to believe they are not true, but you know the truth. An array of crap is talked about all schools, some true some not. Those who go all out defending such insignificant claims do nothing but further confirming the truth to them
By Divajen2001 (Divajen2001) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 04:27 pm: Edit
Oh shut up. This is a forum for people that were admitted or denied from Cornell. This is NOT a place where people come to find an outlet for their jealousy and bash on other people in hopes of making themselves feel better. Cornell is what it is. Just deal and stop with this elitist crap.
By Nocalguy (Nocalguy) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 04:33 pm: Edit
If you really wanted to go to a school and people were talking crap about it, you would be defensive too. I'm pretty new to this site, but I have found it to be a great resource and have found many encouraging people here. However, there are a few arrogant jerks on here who degrade other people or their schools. You can have a 1600 SAT or be class president or have been accepted to Stanford, Harvard, and Yale and you can be happy with your achievements, but why can't people just support the achievements of others?
By Doctort (Doctort) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 04:47 pm: Edit
Hey Nocalguy, reputation bothers me alot also. I was accepted to a combined BS/MD Physician Scientist Program offerrred conjointly by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College and if I get into an ivy, I'm wondering if I should take the ivy or the medical program. RPI obviously does not have the reputation of ivies, but the med. program secures me into a sweet med. school removing all that stress from increasing fierce competition to med. school these days. You think rep really matters once you're in the work force. I mean the leaders in businesses are not all from ivies so people help me w/ my situation. Thanks guys.

We shouldn't argue over petty issues like who's going to the more selective school. Anyone with half a brain knows that Cornell is a very selective school. However, anyone with half a brain also would know that selectivity does not determine quality of the school. Just because Cornell is not as selective as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, etc, does not mean it is easy to get into, nor does it mean it is a worse school.

Star - what school did you apply to?
I got waitlisted as well, from ILR.
SAT I - 1500 total
Verbal - 770
Math - 730
ACT - 34 composite
All AP/honors/local college courses
92ish average (unweighted)
4.0 in 4 courses at State University of New York at Albany (music theory, calculus, intermediate French 1, intermediate French 2)
4.0 in Economics at Syracuse University
Awesome recommendations, one from a Cornell parent (my old English teacher) who discussed that she knows what Cornell is looking for and considers me one of her best students in years of teaching
Essays - spent hours on each of the 250 word answers, they came out perfect
Visited many many times, met ILR admissions people and professors, sent follow up letters/thank yous/etc. Interview went well, and I was told that I seemed very well qualified.
Extracurriculars:
-140 hours volunteer (various)
-Drama club/various community and regional theatre (including professional, paid productions; recipient of awards from Theatre Association of New York State)
-Founded improvisational comedy group based on Whistling Shrimp at Cornell
-Future Business Leaders of America: 5th place economics, 1st place impromptu speaking - representing region at state competition
-Work (Panera Bread Company) 20 hours/week
-National Honor Society Members
-AP Scholar
-National Merit commended
-Advocacy for Gifted and Talented Education In New York State: Student of the Year
Etc, etc
I did get into NYU; my plan is to put a deposit down there. If I get taken off the waitlist, I'll have a big decision to make. Another consideration for me is that NYU is for drama and possibly a double major in something more academic, while Cornell is for industrial and labor relations.
