In other words, i got rejected from MIT... do i still have a chance at the ivies?

my stats are, briefly

SAT I: 1570 (770 V, 800 M)
SAT II: 800 (Chem), 790 (Writing), 790 (Math IIC)

i didnt do the MIT interview (or any interview for that matter - i am an international student) and i got the 790 on Math IIC in january (so the MAth IIC score that went to MIT was 730)

any opinion will be valued...

thanx

Moi: you really didn't provide any information about yourself in that description so it's hard to judge. Sure those scores are good and all, but I have those too (I got a better MathIIC and SAT I verbal score, but close enough) and I was accepted. Most students accepted to MIT had good stats (yeah I realize there were some wierd things this year with 1400's and stuff), but regardless, good scores/GPA isn't everything. List all your ECs, you opinion on your essay, recs, etc.

MIT has always been weird....just depends on how good your application/resume looks.

thanx a lot for replying everybody

my ecs were ok... i had a couple that were (i hope) pretty good but then the school i go to does not really have scope for extracurricular activities (i mean we dont even have PE or ART LESSONS after 8th grade)... i got my counsellor to write about that though...

my essay... i dunno... i dont know if i can judge it properly but i d say it didnt really say much about me... that is it did to a certain extent but not alot... the shorter essays were pretty good

my recommendations were really good (or so i thought) but its not like the teachers wrote pages and pages about me or drolled over me or somehting... my counsellor report was great tho

i think this really went against me: although i am paki i live in saudi arabia...

i didnt send them any extra materials and i didnt really have a hook... unless u count the really minor and almost neglible fact that im a girl wanting to study science

I have very similar credentials to yours and was also rejected from MIT. I didn't really apply to any ivies, but I got into some really good schools (ie-Caltech). On the other hand, I've heard a/b people with scores and grades and stuff much lower than mine being accepted to MIT.

Where else did you apply? Where have you heard from and where are you thinking about going?

Also, I don't know much a/b international applicants, but it seems like being a pakistani living in Saudia Arabia would HELP you. I mean, I doubt admissions officers are prejudiced against certain countries, but they ARE biased in favor of creating a 'diverse' class.

Moi,

I'm sorry to say it, but I think Cog is being naive. In the political climate today, it can only hurt you to be a muslim/living in a muslim country. Having said that, playing the blame game on why you didn't get in is a waste of time. MIT gets thousands of unbelievable applicants and hence it has to reject thousands of the same applicants. I'm sure you'll have luck with at least ONE of the ivies, if not many. Good luck and keep us posted next week! :)
