Hey mmdd, is that wesleyan uni or college? When did they mail out the decisions? And when is williams gonna mail theirs? looks like we applied to some of the same places.
By Mmdd (Mmdd) on Sunday, March 30, 2003 - 02:12 pm: Edit

Anyone know what the deal is with the waitlist, chances etc, or if it is a classic case of that 'Tufts syndrome' or whatever its called where they will waitlist a bunch of Ivy class people to gauge interest and increase their yeild?
By Cara811888 (Cara811888) on Sunday, March 30, 2003 - 04:55 pm: Edit
mmdd-I applied to 13 as well! freaked out later thinking that its an unlucky number... In any case I applied to a uni out of the states afterwards, so my imagination isn`t killing me anymore. Yeah aside from middlebury, williams and wesleyan, I applied to connecticut (waitlisted), Colgate(accepted!), mt holyoke, bates, Yale, Harvard(u know..shoot for the stars and u'll atleast hit the ceiling) and aaaahhh....sometimes I have to stop and think real hard to remember all those names! I wish next week will be over soon..the suspense is driving me up the wall!

Cara- have you heard from Bates yet?
By Cara811888 (Cara811888) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 12:29 am: Edit
pisces-no..this week..good luck!
By Pisces (Pisces) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 03:40 pm: Edit
Actually, I was already waitlisted at Bates (found out Friday), so hopefully for you that means they're sending out acceptances a little later. I was really surprised that I was accepted at Middlebury but not at Bates, but I guess that's the way it goes sometimes.
By Cara811888 (Cara811888) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 04:34 pm: Edit
Not necessarily.. I`m an international student..so it would take longer for the mail to come..got rejected by swarthmore today..my first outright rejection actually..not a great feeling but I`ll survive! I better...got about 9 more places to go and time is crawling like a microscopic snail
where r u really hoping to go to? Middlebury?
By Shrn1 (Shrn1) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 05:38 pm: Edit
for those of you who have announced your middlebury status, what were your credentials?
By Pisces (Pisces) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 05:42 pm: Edit
Cara- Middlebury is my top choice, so the others arent too disappointing. My stress level has finally dropped after like seven months of losing sleep, hair, and my sanity.
By Mmdd (Mmdd) on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 10:01 pm: Edit
Update- I got into Williams today!
I'm trying to decide:
Williams or Wesleyan?
Please, let me know your thoughts...
By Cara811888 (Cara811888) on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 01:23 am: Edit
mmdd-COONGRATS!! But tough choice huh?Wouldn't it also depend on how much financial aid u'll get at each place?
Pisces- Yeah..though I can feel my stress level creeping up again thinking about those trivial points of going to college that I never even thought about before.

I am an international applicant to Middlebury but waws put into the waitlist pool. As far as I know, they didn't use waiting list at all last year. And I think favor is more likely to be given to domestic students. I am really disappointed cuz Middlebury is really my first choice. My question is whether they have ever given to int'l waitlisted students admissions for the fall or spring semester. If spring semester is available to int'l students, should I apply as a transfer or freshman? This situation is really annoying. Waiting for ur help. Thanks.
By Pisces (Pisces) on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 04:23 pm: Edit
Well, I assume that if they actually put you on the waitlist, then they dont automatically exclude int'ls from being accepted from it. From what I have heard and read (on my own waitlist letters), the application pool has been so strong academically and large number-wise that most schools will be using their waitlists. According to Midd., they expect like 48% matriculation- i dont know how realistic this is. So, dont give up hope yet.
By Maverick (Maverick) on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 06:58 pm: Edit
thanks Pisces, I think why they didn't exclude iont'ls from waitlist is because it takes time to prepare two version for domestic and int'l waitlisted.... ( it is just what I guess though. )It is somewhay they call non-discrimination too. I am kinda sure that the hope of being off from the waitlist to gain admission is very little. But it wouldn't hurt to have a try. cCould u or anyone else recommend what to to to increase the chances?
By Critical (Critical) on Tuesday, April 01, 2003 - 09:34 pm: Edit
I got waitlisted at Middlebury, but I got into Duke. Go figure! That is ok though, because I didn't really want to go to Middlebury. Admissions are so unpredictable!

Are you guys kidding?? So many people have heard of middlebury. It's known as the "hidden ivy" The president of CNN went to middlebury and gave like a million dollars to the school last year to build a new dining hall and dorm. The owner of aol's daughter also goes there and gives like so much money. The public speaker for the whithouse also went to middlebury. There are so many middlebury people behind the scences everywhere, and you get so many connections. My sister is graduationg this year, and b/c of her status as a "mid kid" she's becomming an editor for CNN news in washington.
By Hildegard (Hildegard) on Saturday, April 05, 2003 - 03:53 pm: Edit
Are you talking about the CEO of CNN, Walter Isaacson? I think he went to Harvard. Do a search on the internet and you'll see. He was also a Rhodes Scholar and went to Oxford. Unless we're talking of two different people, I'm pretty sure Walter Isaacson has a BA from Harvard.
Anyway, going back to the topic of Middlebury.. I applied to Middlebury as a transfer and got waitlisted!! Supposedly, there are only around 5 spots for transfers. I wonder if I have any chance.. probably not. I will have to send an extra essay and see if that helps.
By Bowdoin13 (Bowdoin13) on Saturday, April 05, 2003 - 06:49 pm: Edit
I got into Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, Bowdoin, and Middlebury. I'm going to go to Bowdoin.
By Pinkiep083 (Pinkiep083) on Saturday, April 05, 2003 - 07:05 pm: Edit
not the CEO, i don't know who that is. The president. A CEO is like the owner.
