how is calpoly engineering compared to UCSD/ UCD / purdue?

By Crackcorn (Crackcorn) on Friday, March 21, 2003 - 08:47 pm: Edit

Depends which Cal Poly you're talking about. Cal Poly SLO is the best of the Cal Poly's. Very highly regarded for Architecture and also for Engineering. I don't know about Purdue, but I'd say Cal Poly SLO has a higher reputation for Engineering than UCSD or UCD.

I agree; from the schools you mentioned, I have applied and been accepted to UCD and Cal Poly (san luis obispo).

By the way, Weird Al Yankovic has an Architecture degree from Cal Poly SLO. Al was valedictorian of his So.Cal. high school. He was a DJ on the Cal Poly radio station and recorded "My Bologna" in the station's bathroom.

Cal Poly was considered a party school in those years, but more recently it's lost its party crown to the neighboring University of Casual Sex and Beer.

haaaahahahha no way.. Weird Al....
Why the he11 didn't I apply for architecture at CalPoly?!?!?!?

My grandfather used to run one of the biggest architecture firms in California. He used to personally go to Cal Poly every year to recruit and always considered it one of the very best schools in the nation.

Yeah, Cal Poly engineering IS a lot better UCSD/D. That's what they're known for. Hmm...How is Cal Poly business/economics compared to UCSD or UCD?

DD was at SLO last year and lived in the arch dorm. Degree at SLO in arch is actually architectural engineering....different than arch degree, has more math and engineering than design studios....tougher degree. She loves cal poly, beautiful beaches....great weather and all the classes are taught by profs not TAs. She is an animal science major and the lab facilities are wonderful....I went to UC Davis (3 years ago) and the engineering program at SLO is much better, much much better. The price tag is better too, substantially so. SLO feels more like a private school rather than Davis which is a huge university...although I loved it! Loved Davis too, but they have a saying at SLO....Cal Poly SLO is Davis by the Sea!

Hey Cal Poly SLO was my bottom safety school, but now you're making it sound pretty good to me!

By Creatorcat (Creatorcat) on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 04:06 am: Edit

uhm, no, you're the one making it sound pretty good.

An, and I remembered why I didn't apply there...
":: financial status is an important factor in determining your eligibility for enrollment. because financial aid and scholarships are not available to international students..."

being an international, I'll settle with a private school's scholarships :)

By Quarky (Quarky) on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 11:01 am: Edit

well, i've been accepted, but no aid yet.

Cal Poly is starting to sound better than Davis. =) I applied under economics to both schools, and while I was pretty set on going to Davis previously...now, I'm having my doubts. I'm planning to go to their Open House on the 25th. If anyone has any info regarding Poly's schools of business (vs. Davis'), it will be very much appreciated!! Thanks!
