I applied with a 3.7 GPA and 28 ACT with lots of EC's so i'm waiting for a rejection...I have heard that average ACT score there is 30-33. However, Notre Dame focuses on not only legacy but individuality possibly more than any other school. Any predictions are therefore pretty wide open

Gonzo, good luck! What's your SAT and SAT II?

I'm from Montana and didn't take the SAT, which is probably bad, also my school is small and has no AP courses. I applied to U of Montana and Gonzaga also...what are your stats?

Hi Gonzo,I am applying to Notre Dame from a prestigious blue ribbon public high school recognized by the US Dept. of Education. I am a Chinese American (I moved here from China in my youth). I am Buddhist. I am worry about that because ND wants 85% of its student to be Catholic, but hey I want to tell the true. My grades are great but not excellent due to the fact my freshman and sophomore year were difficult because of language barrier. My GPA is around a 3.5. My SAT math is very good but my verbal is bad. My SAT II averaged to be 700.

In my EC’s I tried to emphasize that I am an excellent writer and a publish writer/poet to make up for my poor verbal. Heck! I even send them a Lyrical Ballad that chronically follows my life. My ranking is 13/256 in my old school where I spend two years. In my new school (that is where I am right now) it is between 10-25%. I won a few art awards both in national and local levels (telling them I am pretty rounded). Recently publish in a book last October, which is now on Amazon and Barnes Noble. Let see what else…took the most rigorous course load…pretty decent community service (do not have time)…held a single job for three years with 55-work hour per week (family business, yea my average snooze time is 4 hrs/night)…fluent in three different Chinese dialects…boys state and all that goodies.

I believe my favorite part about my application is my essay. I am very proud of it. The essay question is the one that involves Nelson Mandela’s overcoming fear. I wrote about overcoming speech difficulties and through out the whole essay I used the “moon” as an extended metaphor (the idea came from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet or Andrew Marvell if you want to argue).

What did you write for your essay Gonzo?

Hey there,

My EC's mainly focused on science (went to international fair last year), community service, and athletics. I AM catholic, which i hope helps out i guess. My essay was done on the same quote from Nelson Mandela, I was so-so on its quality. Basically I wrote about playing High School Football (figuring they love football at South Bend) and overcoming my fear of getting hit and getting hurt. My favorite part of my application was a letter or recommendation I got from an Alum who is a family friend. I play 3 sports so i hope that helps EC wise, I also work 15-25 hours a week at a radio station as a DJ. Good Luck! -- I think we are to hear by april 10th.
