Being a resident of Canada, I have no idea what these Alpha Kappa Gamma, Mu Theta Phi, Kappa, etc, etc are and how does one participate in them or is it irrelevant for an international candidate?

For instance, Mu Alpha Theta... lol has appeared several times.

Mu Alpha Theta is a National Mathematics Honor Society encompassing over 65,000 students in more than 1,400 schools. We are dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.

Are all of them like this? Each with a special interest?

How can you get into Mu Alpha Theta

Your school must have a chapter. If you go to the website for national, they'll tell you how to start one if your school doesn't have one.

At son's school, you must have completed certain credits in math, be currently enrolled in math, and maintain a certain GPA.
