Yes, it is true! I found out last Thursday when I called the admissions office. When the guy on the other line insinuated that I did not get accepted, I started to cry. I tried to act normal as I thanked him for telling me. I cried for about an hour afterwards. My heart just shattered into millions of little pieces. USC was my dream school. I don't know what to do now. I guess the suspicions that I developed two weeks ago were correct. I am definitely going to a new community college next semester. Sorry about not telling any of you sooner, but I was really depressed.

Anyway, this is my last post under this screen name. I am no longer using the e-mail address I used to open my account. So I will see you when I decide on a new screen name. Take care for now!

Qbanspice,
I am sorry that you got rejected. I hope that things work out at your new community college. I understand why you cried. When I got turned down by my first choice grad school, I cried, too. It ended up that the place that I got in (my last hcoice school) had a wonderful program that literally changed my life. I wish the same happy outcome for you.

Did you apply to only one school? That's gangsta..
But I am sorry, and as long as you do well you can always transfer to USC!
GoodLuck!

Q,
That's horrible! I am so disappointed that you didn't get into USC as you obviously wanted to attend very badly. As for me, turns out that I was accepted by USC but was rejected from Annenberg, but I know the reason is due to my lack of journalism experience. So I am going to call Monday and see what steps I can take to reapply to the major. If that doesn't pan out, then I'll be attending Fullerton, which also has a good comm school. How much journalism experience do you have? I went back and read the application materials more carefully and it seems like a successful applicant should have submitted clips of his or her best work along with a resume of journalism related experience (which I didn't have), although they don't state it as a direct requirement. Oh well, the deal is done now. Whatever you decide to do in the future just make the folks at USC regret that they rejected you!

Hey Q,

I'm sure that you will love wherever you end up going and have few regrets... but in the case that you're still set on USC after you attend your new college, try transferring!! I'm sure that you can do it -- the admission/administration folks at USC are simply great and they *love* and really appreciate it when their applicants are uber-enthusiastic and wanting to come to their school.

Good luck in the future -- you'll do great at your new school and can show USC what they missed out on!

Hello! I was qbanspice and this is my new screen name because I could not update my e-mail information. Besides I am sick of the qbanspice name! I will address each one of you.

Roh, I cried because going to USC was my dream. USC's journalism program is also highly selective and far more difficult to get into than the actual university. I am not sure if I want to appeal. I don't think that it will make a difference.

Northstarmom, thanks for the kind words.

Haithman, I did apply to one school. I really thought that I would get in. USC is the only school that I ever wanted to attend.

Sodasundae, I do have a background in journalism. From my freshman year to my senior year in high school, I wrote for the school paper. I also have an internship at a magazine this summer which Annenberg is well aware of. And yes, they will regret not letting me in. I am now a UCLA fan!

Collegeboarders, I made it very clear that I was interested. I regularly contacted their admissions office. I began contacting them a year before I applied. The director of the honor's program at my school even called the assistant director of admissions (I think that is his title) on my behalf. I know this because on Jan. 30 when I attended a transfer day at USC, the assistant director of admissions told me that the director of the honor's program at my school had called him. This guy even said that I had a great chance. I thought it was a good sign and a sure thing. I was so wrong! I don't know if I could ever apply to USC again.

Scion, I am a transfer student. If you are still in high school you need to have impressive stats. The qualifications for transfer students are different because we don't have weighted GPAs. I do know that the average GPA of a freshman student at USC is 4.0 and every year their standards get tougher. I graduated from high school in 1996 and back then USC was in the top 40. Today it ranks 30 (what a difference eight years make). They will hit the top 25 in the next several years. State and federal budget cuts across the Union and more educational opportunities are increasing standards across the board. Be sure to do your best and don't slack off as I did in high school because you sure don't want to end up like me.

Again, this is really qbanspice with a new flavor (screen name).

Hrmm. I am sorry that you did not get into USC. USC is an excellent school, and I do wish you the best of luck for the future.

If you need assistance in drafting your appeal, I'm sure the CC community will be open to help you. At least I know I am.

By Ecca (Ecca) on Monday, June 07, 2004 - 06:04 am: Edit

appeal!!! keep hope alive. i argued with my friends when they pushed me to appeal ucb and i found out it worked last week.

so, i think you should appeal; what do you have to lose?

By Lamom (Lamom) on Monday, June 07, 2004 - 10:41 am: Edit

Theocgirl. I am so sorry. I can say I know what it feels like to hold your child when their whole body shakes because they lost something they wanted so much. You worked very hard, you did everything you could. Things will get better, you will have a happy ending. It will take a while because it was a loss. SC does a good job of letting you love them. You have to decide if you want to continue wanting USC. You can call them and go over a transfer plan. Maybe graduate school there would be better for you? You will decide and you will be successful. Hi Theocgirl/Q,
So were you accepted to USC and rejected from Annenberg or rejected from USC? I called Annenberg today and asked them what the deal was and the guy told me that this year, 160 applied for 25 spots. So you can see that the odds weren't good to begin with. Unfortunately he said that it was too early to ask for specifics, like what kind of people they accepted. Now I can understand why you were so crushed, I mean if admissions had told me the same, I would have gotten my hopes up too! Seems you just can't always trust what admissions tell you, a lot of the times it seems like they tell you positive and vague happy stuff just to get you to apply (and pay the application $$$!).
So where are you planning on transferring in the future then? If I could, I would apply to Northwestern. Well anyway...

Hey, what happened to all those other Annenberg applicants??? I'd sure would like to hear their stories.

I think Q is lying. He's posted something similar.

Roh, did you get into davis on appeal?

By Markm2004 (Markm2004) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 03:48 pm: Edit

cheer up, its not the end of the world, learn from this experience and motivate yourself to gain admissions next time.

By Roh (Roh) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 04:13 pm: Edit

Nmoreno1: nope, they didn't even respond this time.
