If I go to a cc will it stop me in the future for getting a good job. Because just the other day i got accepted to UCSC but I think i would rather transfer to another college from a cc. And i dunno if i wanna leave home yet. so will there be consequences in the future for not going straight into a 4-year college????

Naw, I think as long as you do well, meaning study hard, get good grades, and get involved in something extra-curricular, then you should be ok. As a matter of fact, I think if you go a community college and then transfer to "better" school than UCSC, like UCLA or something, then that will surely reflect better on your abilities than just going to UCSC and "settling." It shows you took a more challenging path and didn't just settle, but held out for going to the school of your choice. And in the end your degree is going to be from the 4-year school, so if it's between going to a community college and then UCLA as opposed to straight to UCSC, which do you think is better in the long run (job-wise I mean)?

If you go to cc then harvard, your diploma says harvard.

yea its fine also i talked to 2 law schools and they balance my CC and uni GPA the same of course if there is a huge drop at the uni they are gonna get suspicous but overall its not going to hurt both of my parents make 6 figures a year and both are products of community college as am i

go with UC to UC transfer.
some people here have succesfully transferred through that process.
it's better than wasting two years of your college life at a CC.
college is all about fun! no matter where you are! =)

Bluevartouhi: i don't really agree with you there. UCSC can be a challenging school as well and offers excellent undergrad academics, but of course it's not as challenging as UCLA. it all depends on how well you do. let's say one person graduated from UCLA with a 3.4 gpa and another person graduated from UCSC with a 4.0 gpa with honors. which person do you think grad schools would want? off course the UCSC guy. going to UCLA doesn't mean that you'll be better off in the long run. what if you struggle at UCLA and can't maintain a good gpa? remember, everbody at UCLA has to WORK THEIR ASS OFF! the work load is huge!

undergrad school are not really that important, so it doesn't really matter where you go. undergrad school will only help you get a bachelor's degree, which means nothing.
grad school is the thing that matters more. it is better to do well in a not-as-challenging undergrad school than struggling at a challenging school like UCLA. if you end up with a 2.8 gpa at UCLA, chances are many grad schools are not going to want you.

nah.. won't say you went to a CC on your diploma.. just like it won't say "recruited athlete" or "daddy donated $$$$ so i got in" :P

plus, if you do well, it might even HELP you.

i went to a CC.. after high school, i could have MAYBE gotten into a CSU.. plus, i didn't know what i wanted to do and didn't want to spend 30 grand a year of my parents money... but, i worked hard, and i will be attending Cal in the fall.

DON'T DO UC TO UC TRANSFER!! It's way harder than a cc to uc, because they figure if you're already at a Uc, why move you. Seriously...and it's way way cheaper to go the cc route and you'll have the freedom to explore what you want to do more than at another UC. A lot of CA ccs have transfer alliance programs that make it pretty easy to transfer to a good school. And it's not a waste of time at all to go to a cc. I got into UCSC out of hs, but went to a cc instead and I've never regreted my decision and next year I'm going to UCLA. Not only that, they're paying for it :)

well i'm determined to do well at UCSC.
if i maintain like a 4.0 gpa, my chances of getting into UCD will be high. so i'm picking the UC-UC transfer route.

2003 Admission Report:
http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ucnotes/september03/cconf1.html

UCD accepted 42.9% transfer students from 4 year colleges. not a bad number at all. =)
it's almost like a freshmen applicant trying to get into UCSD.

go with the cc to uc transfer! there are transfer agreements that if you get at least a 3.0 or something UCD has to admit you!! i'm a cc advocate--i was kicked out of high school twice and finally graduated from a continuation school that convinced me to do the cc thing. this semester, i was forced to choose between ucla and ucb! as did my sister, who got her g.e.d.!!

it's a little harder to transfer from uc to uc (i've heard) and you don't get the transfer agreement contracts. you will not be 'wasting your life' at a cc, like some other posts write. the time will fly by and before you know it you'll be at a school you never thought you would get into and you can use all the money you've saved to intern at ucla's placements in new york city or something (graduate schools love that).

By Roh (Roh) on Monday, June 07, 2004 - 05:02 pm: Edit

well luckily, money is not a problem for me. w00t.
i don't even plan to transfer to prestigous UC's like UCB or UCLA. but i'll apply just for the hell of it if i transfer.
