Hi, I am currently a freshman (although I am on break right now, so I am technically a "pre-sophmore"), and I was wondering what types of activities I should be doing to have a good shot at getting accepted at a IV League or similar school (Stanford?). I admit I slacked off during freshman year: very few ec's (jv soccer) and a weak GPA (3.6). What should I try to do besides getting good grades, what kind of things do these colleges look for? I am of Indian descent, and I can do volunteer work for Mother Teresa Organization in Calcutta, India; would this look in the application? Also, one last thing: do these private/elite colleges look at freshman year grades/activites (Oh geez, I hope not
?

FFS, transferring into an Ivy or Stanford is not dissimilar to being admitted as a freshman, although in some cases it may be even more difficult. These schools accept relatively few transfers. They will definitely look at what you have done in your first year of college. If you decide to attempt a transfer app, expect to explain how their school will match up with your academic objectives (probably better to be more specific here than many high school applicants are), and what unique characteristics you will be bringing to their campus.
