Is this worth going to? I live 440 miles away from Davis and will most likely be going there alone.

I'm going! Also, they have something for the parents and at lunch and dinner the parents meet up with the students. So i think my parents are going too. It should be fun!

You need to go because you take your placement tests, register for classes for the fall, get your ID card, etc. It's important.

Hmm... Yeah, I feel like I should go. It sucks that I'll be going by myself though since my parents will be busy, and nobody else I know is going to Davis. I was reading about it online, and it's a 3 day program. Do you think a lot of people will be going? Because I know it's a first come, first serve thing and I still haven't sent in my SIR yet...

What is the site for this program? How much does it cost? What are the admission requirements?
| By Anxious_Mom (Anxious_Mom) on Saturday, April 10, 2004 - 09:39 pm: Edit |
The web-site is http://why.ucdavis.edu/summeradvising/index.cfm
Each new student is required to attend, and there is enough space for everyone - however, the choice of sessions is what is first-come first served. The cost is $170 and the only admission requirement is to be admitted to UCD. Different sessions are set aside for the different colleges, as the students will receive a lot of information relating to their majors and will register for classes.
I expect that there will be lots of students without their parents, and others who will come alone,so you will be able to meet some of your future classmates...

Summer advising is REALLY fun, and people who attend gets to register for classes early, which is quite important. YOu meet friends before school starts, and also if you need to take any placement test that's the time you take it. (if you're planning on taking chemister, math, or lanugage classes you need to take the placement test).

Are we supposed to bring parents? Does anyone know who has been there before?
| By Derbisblue (Derbisblue) on Sunday, April 11, 2004 - 12:09 am: Edit |
You can bring parents, but you don't have to, I didn't. I think you have to pay extra to bring parents, and they have their own orientation sorta, and live in separate dorms. But you get to eat with them and see them during free times. It doesn't really matter if you bring them.

About how many people do bring them though? I'm out of state and although I really don't want my parents to go, I think they will have to because they are going to fly up here with me.

Hmm.. I think for my year more people brought parents than people who didn't, so since you're out of state, defintiely bring your parents.

Hi,Nori. If you go to www.ucdavis.edu and look up "summer advising" under the "search UCD" engine (in the top right hand corner of the page) you will find links to all of the dates and even schedules for the summer advising program for incoming freshman and transfer students. You will also find any and all the info that you will need for summer advising. On another note, does anyone know the actual dates (if they are even set yet) of when incoming freshman for the fall of 2004 are able to move onto campus? Thank you!!
