Does anyone have any comments or experience with either University of the Pacific or Case Western for their 6 year Dental Programs. I am leaning toward UOP because it is seems to be the better fit for me and it is 3 years in Stockton and 3 years in San Fran as opposed to 6 in Cleveland. Any feedback would be great.

UOP claims to have one of the top-ranked dental programs, and CWRU has a strong emphasis on medical education. Both would probably be great locations to do a Dental program, but I have to agree that San Francisco might be more pleasant than Cleveland.

I'll address the amenities of the towns rather than comparing the programs, which I hear are both top-notch. Weather-wise, Stockton and S.F. have Cleveland beat. I lived for 7 years in Sacramento (45 min. from Stockton) and now live less than two hours away. S.F. climate is marine and temperate. It can get foggy, but it is more of a marine layer fog that drifts in and out, not too horrible. Stockton spends much of winter gray and foggy. Their brand of fog is "tule fog," which is thick and dangerous to drive in. Summers in S.F. are wonderful; they are miserably hot in Stockton (it was over 100 yesterday). Cleveland gets more rain than both of these other cities and I believe some snow in the winter. I don't know much about their summer weather, but I would imagine it is hot and humid. BTW, Stockton has beautiful falls and springs.
As a town, Stockton is pretty much the pits. The crime rate is high and the culture is low. People make jokes about Cleveland, but I know it has more to offer culturally than Stockton. If you are willing to drive to S.F. or Sacramento (which wouldn't be fun in the tule fog), you can get your cultural "fix." It really depends on you and how you like to spend your time. It would be a difficult choice for me, but I think I'd go the Stockton/S.F. route, not because of the years in Stockton, but because of the years in S.F.

I guess most concentrated medical-dental programs are respected. If the clout of a nationally known university does not outweigh your desire to live in the setting you find more comfortable, go to whichever one you want.
