By Chen (Chen) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 12:48 am: Edit

ED II
Sent in a letter. GPA stayed the same, but it was bad in the first place.

I wasn't a strong applicant in the first place.

By Soulofheaven8 (Soulofheaven8) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 10:46 am: Edit

Columbia ED
-Sent in letter, one alumni rec, new essay, 2 articles written for school newspaper, an email updating my regional admissions officer on some development
-raised GPA from 4.81 to 4.89; class rank from 8th to 6th
ACCEPTED

By Nyapplicant (Nyapplicant) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 10:53 am: Edit

because the sample you have is the top echelon of students, thus subjecting this survey to selection bias. take your high school for example and you'll find that very few deferred students were ultimately accepted.

^^^...yes..thank you captain obvious..lol j/p...but i was talking about people on this board anyway, not the total population

Deferred EA at MIT. Sent one additional letter of recommendation and a short letter of my own. Didn't beg or try to show off, just updated them on what I've been doing my senior year. Midyear grades were consistent. Accepted.

By Crnchycereal (Crnchycereal) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 12:02 pm: Edit

Deferred EA at Yale. Sent in a letter concerning my continued interest in attending and updates on awards/accomplishments. Did very well on my mid-year report and maintained a high GPA/rank (#1). Counselor also wrote in again. Rejected.

By Runningwolf (Runningwolf) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 03:27 pm: Edit

Deferred EA at Harvard. Sent in nothing new, but talked to track coach. He wasn't at all interested in me, which was very odd, because I could help their team. I was rejected.

By Cornell_Hopeful (Cornell_Hopeful) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 04:06 pm: Edit

- Cornell
- ED
- ACCEPTED
- Sent them a letter a month about the craziest and quirkiest things and I showed continued interest. My counselor wrote them a letter a month and she called them about once a month too. Personally, I think they accepted me because they didn't want to hear from me anymore. Oh, and I even mentioned in one of my letters that I would be writing them letters until they were "blue in the face" so they better accept me if they didn't want to be bothered by me anymore (haha). And in a moment of "vexation" I said that the dean of admissions was not my favorite person at the moment. I was scared to send it in, but i guess it worked.

By Zzii (Zzii) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 04:28 pm: Edit

Risky, but maybe that's what it takes. My letter (there was only one) was pretty much the opposite, just an update on what I've been doing and I mentioned that I was still very interested in MIT. Although I think my other recommendation was risky enough to make up for it, but I can never know for sure.

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore--
and then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load

Or does it just explode?

By Chasgoose (Chasgoose) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 11:23 pm: Edit
