So I'm wondering a few things.

I've noticed they've given acceptances. I'd like this conversation to serve as a place for people to post their acceptances and for others if they're still waiting. I'm trying to figure out if they're doing a rolling acceptance like UCSB(letting people know daily) or if all the acceptances out at once and waiting on giving rejections, which is I think what UC Davis did.

I'm still waiting on my letter, so I'm nervous.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 07:06 pm: Edit

Oh, and please post your statistics. Include:

GPA
E.C.'s
Job Related Activities
Location

e.c i did some community service helping at the police and fire games within california. Did a national make a difference clean up just to throw on my app
saddleback cc student
oh yea i found out that the colleges only differ in lower division stuff so if youre a transfer it really does not matter

By Doraemonkqkq (Doraemonkqkq) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 07:11 pm: Edit

also CCC transfer
Psych Major
3.84GPA
E.C - few
Work on Campus 14 hours a week
Diablo Valley College
Int'l Student

man. . . heard that SD accept 11% of the applicants this year! I wonder how many students would UCLA get! THat's my first choice =_=

By Korean (Korean) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 07:12 pm: Edit

i am waiting for my result too
i am thinking it's rolling basis
cuz there seems to be only few people wh ogot accepted so far
good luck to eveyrone including me~!

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 07:18 pm: Edit

Dorae,
I think UCLA will be about the same as UCSD I cant beleive UCSD accepted only 11 percent I was shocked when they sent me the information. If anyone needs the flier that says it i downloaded a copy and can email it

By Doraemonkqkq (Doraemonkqkq) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 07:21 pm: Edit

thanks for the information.

I am really nervous about UCLA. . .
Most of my friends who major in Psych n got GPA around 3.6 still able to get there in last few years~~~~

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 09:01 pm: Edit

Bump.

Oh and BTW, I don't have my Davis letter with me, but it said similar things. I think in an acceptance letter schools give odd statistics to talk themselves up so you'll go there.

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 10:09 pm: Edit

anyone have any information on housing for transfers. I would prefer an apartment where many students live in that complex. Any information is appreciated such as apartment complex names and any other helpful information.

By Bwawn (Bwawn) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:37 pm: Edit

For those of you transfers who have received acceptances (or rejections) from UCSD, when did you receive them? Going to http://studentlink.ucsd.edu and filling in my information still tells me that a decision will be posted between mid March and May 1. It's making me worry a bit that I haven't heard either way, but I'm assuming it's all on a rolling basis. At least, I'm hoping it is...

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:40 pm: Edit

Just so you know what Mocksimus said is wrong. Their acceptance rate is not 11%. They want to ENROLL about 11% of their application pool.

By Doraemonkqkq (Doraemonkqkq) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:41 pm: Edit

I checked it online yesterday morning

By Bwawn (Bwawn) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:47 pm: Edit

Botheredone, in another thread you seemed to have a pretty specific number for accepted students. I'm assuming they supplied this number in the acceptance letter? Or was it just an estimate on your part?

I'm worried because if they did supply such a number, it makes me wonder why they don't post all the decisions now, since that would suggest they are done reviewing applications.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:51 pm: Edit

That was just me. But last year the numbers were about 8,000 applied and 5,000 accepted. So I was going off their statistics.

By Greenmoo04 (Greenmoo04) on Sunday, April 04, 2004 - 11:57 pm: Edit

Exactly! All these people are assuming that because UCLA and UCSD have these ridiculous numbers- "You're one of 3900 students of 41000 applicants" That does NOT mean there's a 9% acceptance rate! It means they expect to enroll 3900 students- which means they have to accept 10,000 students- an acceptance rate of 25% or so.

By Jbe (Jbe) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 02:14 pm: Edit

Doraemonkqkq- I go to DVC too. I see you were rejected by Davis?! 3.8?! I was rejected by Davis as well. Davis is usually a sure shot coming out of DVC....have any of your friends gotten in?

By Ans298 (Ans298) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 03:34 pm: Edit

I got into UCSD on Saturday when I checked around 2 PM. Orange County, 4.0, poli sci major for Thurgood Marshall. I found about getting into Irvine mid-March. Cal and especially UCLA are the ones I care about.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 04:06 pm: Edit

OK. I personally think they're notifying people from easiest accepted on down. So the higher GPA bracket (3.6 and up) are being notified first. I'm speaking with UCSD admissions right now and they said they've begun notification and will be doing it until the end of the month. The admissions officer just told me it's like this: They started in the most local areas with the students with the highest GPA's and worked backward. They're actually not done with their decision process! So if there's anything you need on your application you need changed you better get it changed.

Nervous!!

By Howdy25 (Howdy25) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 07:25 pm: Edit

that's not true...I have a 4.0 (Biochemistry major) and I'm still pending for UCSD. I think it depends on major and where you live mostly

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:22 pm: Edit

Anyone plan on attending transfer admit day at ucsd? I called and registered 2 spots so if its full you can say youre with me =P

By Bwawn (Bwawn) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:04 am: Edit

Botheredone, thanks for the updates. Like you, I am very nervous! I originally thought of UCSD as a "sure thing" but am having last-minute worries.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and have over a 3.8 GPA with 82 transferable semester units. I guess I haven't been notified yet mostly because I'm a Northern California boy!

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:11 am: Edit

Bwawn,
Im sure you will be fine I had a 3.6 as a poli sci transfer. I am at saddleback CC college. I also had 7 f`s which i listed as NP( on advice from advisor)since they dont factor in to my gpa ( or any stats for that matter) since I got academic renewal and retook each one but I still had a rough few semesters before I got serious and I got in fine.Whats your major cause the sciences are tough bio is really prestigous

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:31 am: Edit

My admission isn't a sure thing. I'm batting with a 3.2 GPA and a frickload of E.C.'s. But I also have 3 W's, a D, and an I. The W's I retook as A's and B's. The D was in weight training, and I have a ton of those classes that compensate for that. The I I finished, but it's not on my official transcript so I haven't sent it in. My counselor said the I was the biggest thing keeping me back. And the admissions officer told me it could effect my acceptance. But I got a C in the class (a C!! UGH!) and I dunno, I think I might be better off not reporting it.

And the admissions officer specifically told me they're working with the local people (SD and SoCal) in the high GPA bracket and working their way out. She also said not all the decisions had been made yet. Even with a 3.2 I saw UCSD as a sure thing (the largest percentage of transfers last year had a 3.0 - 3.29) but now I'm also worried. I got into Davis, but I like both schools equally and would like to have the option of UCSD.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:35 am: Edit

Botheredone would also like to know if everyone sees that link on the Studentlink site saying congratulations on your admission!

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:38 am: Edit

Botherdone,
Dont worry about the W`s I sat down with REPS from UCI and they crossed them right off my transcript along with any course i retook and they said " no school in the uc system holds those against you its like its not there" as long as its a W and an F is repeated and "wiped" from factoring into your gpa

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:41 am: Edit

Yeah, my counselor said the only real red flag is the Incomplete. It's in an IGETC course too, but I've finished it. Blah. Blah I say! I was thinking if I was rejected that I could use the grade I finally get in it as an appeal.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:44 am: Edit

BTW Mocksimus, despite if I get in, congratulations. You seem really really excited about it and I am happy for you. Even if I will be bitter at being rejected.

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:51 am: Edit

thanks yea im pretty stoked I am going to go to UCSD I think for sure. You should keep checking studentlink, mine posted at 2:15 AM beats me. I think you have a very good chance depending on your major what is it BTW?

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:53 am: Edit

John Muir Political Science, like you. Honestly I chose the six colleges at random. I applied as Political Science and Philosophy as an alternative. I do however know for a fact they look only at your grades, E.C.'s and essay, thanks to you. Your letter in PDF format said specifically UCSD does not accept you on basis of your major.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 02:13 am: Edit

Frick. I know what they're doing! What a sh!tty process! Does anyone want to hear what I think they're doing? They're trying to fill up the 1300 enroll slots with higher GPA people before they start accepting us lower ones! I'm going to hurt them!

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 02:15 am: Edit

I wont accept till the last day so they keep accepting people predicitng a low enroll rate =P

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 02:21 am: Edit

Happy days! Hey, eveyone do that then I'll throw a big party for you when I get in!

LOL... that's good idea! I hope you get in Botheredone Good LUck!.. hehe I didn't apply to SD, but I commented in this thread anyway =)

By Korean (Korean) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 06:57 am: Edit

I WAS WONDERING
so far i have 60 units by the end of this spring semester
and i just need 1 unit of lab course to finish IGETC .
and i was wondering if that would affect much???
i have 4.0 so far in all the other courses.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 07:05 am: Edit

Doubtful, actually. UCSD is very lax on IGETC and major prep.

However, I hada friend who was rejected from UCLA for missing an IGETC requirement.

By Jbe (Jbe) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 12:22 pm: Edit

•••• admissions.......GPA isnt everything. Read the god damn personal statements, find out who we are. Im starting to get pissed. Do they really want a bunch of 4.0 mongers that sit in their room all day and study? (no offense to any 4.0 ers....i just know some personally, the ones i know just arent well rounded, Im sure this is the minority)sorry to sound bitter, but ive busted my ass for three years, supporting myself 100%, paying for everything, living on my own...I i just dont think admissions really cares because I'm a 3.2. I should have applied to Cal State Hayward!eeewww

By Jbe (Jbe) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 12:24 pm: Edit

oh, and why the hell does it matter where you live? If you are closer to the school, your more likely to get in? thats retarded...

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 02:47 pm: Edit

I beleive they do read the personal statment. I have a 3.6 almost a 4.0 "monger" =P, but I had a rough academic start and talked about it in my essay so it must have made a difference. Jbe I really hope you get in keep us updated. I also think they give preference to any in californian your actual city of orgin i think has little impact.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 04:23 pm: Edit

With 60 Units 3.6 does not make you a 4.0 monger. And they accept locals because they're more likely to enroll.

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 07:11 pm: Edit

ANyone know if parents income effects my chances for scholarships? I thought I might get offered a scholarship and UCI or UCR and I was wondering if my parents making to much might affect that ( mid six figures a year)anyone know if they take that into account? Also I have mroe than 60 untis of course work and my last 40 units have been 4.0 but im not gonna argue with you.)

By Alpinesun (Alpinesun) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 07:28 pm: Edit

how come u think ur gonna get a scholarship?
i had a 4.0 for my last 45 units... do u think i have a chance?

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 08:16 pm: Edit

i jsut thought i might have a chance

By Alpinesun (Alpinesun) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 08:44 pm: Edit

oh i just thought you knew how scholarships were given out..

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 08:47 pm: Edit

I didn't apply for any scholarships because my parents make too much money.

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 09:07 pm: Edit

also a tip for newly accepted UCSD transfers.Email the off campus housing your PID and ask for a temp off campus housing login and they will supply you with one. the housing is MUCH cheaper on here with other students ( about 550 for own bed own bath) and will give you a more relastic rent amount then the 1,500 a month stuff i found in the san diego tribune

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 10:49 am: Edit

Still waiting. Everyone pray please. You think if I beg the admissions officer? I mean, if they're really just looking for candidates.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 05:34 am: Edit

Big Bump. BTW, has anyone been accepted since the first round of transfers were? Or do you think those of us that have been left out are now waiting for rejection letters?

Hi. Sorry I'm not a transfer student but I've thought about going to a community college to transfer to the UC that I want. I've recently gotten into UCSD but was rejected from UCI, being my first choice. Since most of you guys have been at a community college, I was just wondering is it that hard to transfer to a UC after two years? People are always telling me how much easier it would be if I just go to a CCC and transfer up because I would almost be guarantted. But then I've heard different things lately and it seems that the process is a lot more competitive now. I'm just wondering is it wise to go to CCC and transfer up or should I just accept my admission at UCSD?

By Imalerd (Imalerd) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 09:40 pm: Edit

silliee accept admission at UCSD! its way better than irvine overall.. and you might end up liking SD so i advise you not to go to community college because what if you dont get into irvine after a year or two? its always a possiblility.. but good luck at wherever youre going

By Sardonia (Sardonia) on Thursday, April 08, 2004 - 11:13 pm: Edit

Silliee: the difficulty in going to a community college is that you might end up taking a lot of classes that either won't transfer or won't apply to your major.

In my case, I will have like 90 units, but I have changed my mind on what I wanted to study, and I spent a couple of semesters taking vocational courses.

Thus, the risk of attending a CC is that if you AREN'T sure of what you want to 'do' as a career, you could be stuck there for a very long time.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on your perspective. In my case, the fact that I will be accepted to at least one UC means that I have done something that many cannot or are not willing to do.

I suppose.

By Silliee (Silliee) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 02:04 am: Edit

That's one of the things I'm worried about CCC. I just want to get in there and get out as quickly as I can to the UC I want but from what I've heard from you guys and a few other people, it doesn't seem likely that will happen. I guess I should just be happy and accept UCSD. I mean, UCSD isn't a bad school but I'd originally wanted to live at home (I live in Westminster, Orange County, which is 15 min. away from UCI) but this way I'd have to move down to SD. Another aspect is that I'm not too familiar on the system that UCSD runs on with the six separate colleges within one school, which completely throws me off. Well, thank you for the feedback though. I'm kind of going through a rough patch trying to decide what to do so I really appreciate your opinions.

By Sdgirl (Sdgirl) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 05:44 am: Edit

silliee you should go to ucsd and live in the dorm. You can always make visits back home because it's only an hour and a half away of driving. don't you want to be on your own and be independent and experience what's out there for you? its fun going away for college and meet new people. you should give ucsd a try. if you hate it you can always drop out and go to a communitiy college and transfer to uci.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 02:58 pm: Edit

I'm going to put my two cents in and then gripe:

Irvine? Who the frick cares about Irvine? It's in the middle of nowhere and it's a crap school. No offense to those who go there. Furthermore, CCC's suck, take everyone in this thread's word for it. Go to UCSD.

All that said, please stop taking away from the terror that is me waiting for my acceptance letter. PLEASE.

I'm wondering; should I call and just ask them?

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 03:40 pm: Edit

I would call it has been awhile.

By Botheredone (Botheredone) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 04:10 pm: Edit

I did. The guy was a complete bonehead. He said they haven't started notifications for transfers.

By Alpinesun (Alpinesun) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 05:13 pm: Edit

i would rather go to uci than ucsd. The ucsd area reminds me of boring Davis. and the lights make everything look colorless at night.
uci's a nice big clean campus..in a very clean city

By Alpinesun (Alpinesun) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 05:15 pm: Edit

and i dont know, but i enjoy CC WAY MORE than ucdavis.. a college i had no interest in
now im hoping to transfer to a college i actually would like to attend..

By Mocksimus (Mocksimus) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 05:22 pm: Edit

UCSD has a great campus in one of the largest cities in california, UCI has a nice campus also however the academics at UCSD are jsut to much better than UCI.

Thanks everyone for your opinions! I really appreciate it. It's given me some things to think about. I will probably have to visit UCSD before I can make my final decision.

CCC transfer

3.68 GPA(finished all the requirement classes, and still taking some EC), Int'l student, worked, do lots of activities. Not really good in ENGLISH though, lol...

Econ Major for UCI(Early March) and UCSD(Apr 29 or 30?? Forgot) (both accepted)
UCR accepted for Business Ad.

And I chose schools for UCSD randomly, too. Got in Muir.

I'm in East LA
