hi, what are my chances of getting in to uci after a generic appeal(i really want in, family issues, financial issues, blah blah blah)?
GPA(10-11): 3.68 (weighted)
SAT I: 1200 (600 verbal, 600 math)
SAT II: 610 English, 600 Math IC, 540 Spanish
ACT: 25
AP: 3 European History, 2 Calculus AB (uhhh)
First Semester Senior GPA: 4.2 (weighted)
Senior Schedule: Spanish 5 AP, Statistics AP, English IB, Civics H, library aid
Community Service: about 350 hours with local police department
i know my stats aren't wonderful... they suck actually, but i really want to stay home and go uci cause i live in irvine. my only other option is ucsc - i don't want to go there at all. i'd really appreciate your input. thanks.

I think you have a great chance.
What is the new information you can add to your app though?

thanks, i was gonna talk about family issues, financial reasons, and why my gpa was low in soph and junior years. does the fact that i live in irvine and can live at home make any difference at all or no?

do uc's care if all the sudden i don't need financial aid from them? will that change anything regarding admission?

can you make up stuff for an appeal?
is not like they're going to check on you or something.
did it say that documentation was required? i mean, it's impossible to support your case with a documentation if you're having a family issue. but if it's for a medical reason, then that's different.

You mentioned you would use financial reasons, I didnt mention my extremely low family income for ALL four years of high school. Despite this hardship I was able to take the most challenging courses possible and participate in many leadership positions. Would my appeal have a shot?

so how does your financial hardship affect you taking challenging courses in high school?

Socall311 - I have pretty much the same stats as you! Unfortunately, I was also rejected by UCI. My other choice is to go to UCSD. I really wanted to be at UCI because I live like 15 minutes away from there so I'd be able to live at home.
I read the appeal process for UCI and it seems pretty slim. It said something like you have an 8-10% chance of making it on an appeal. Another thing is that I'm not even sure if there's enough time to appeal because what if you appeal and you don't make it so where would you go. UCI says that they're not guaranteeing that you'll get a decision from them by may 1. I'm confused on the whole thing so I don't even know if I should appeal.

i would only appeal if you are deciding between a community college and UCI. that is because community college you have plenty of time to register but for the uc's you have to say what school you are going to by may and if they take longer to give you the results and you deposit for lets say UCSC your screwed. Either way doesn't hurt but dont put yourself in a knot

about how much is the deposit for ucsc? i am willing to sacrifice a little money, but if it's in the thousands... i think i'll reconsider.

I don't think it's in the thousands to deposit. It's $100 for UCSD so I'm guessing it should around the same for the other UCs as well.

please post your stats if you plan on appealing to uci or ucsb.
thanks
