here is my admission decisions

accepted: stanford, U chicago
waitlisted: Harvard
rejected: Brown, U penn, MIT, Yale
pending: princeton, caltech

I don't know much about the waitlist thing, and here i am waitlisted by Harvard.

What should I do? Is there anything i can do to convince them to admit me?

and if you have the stats, how many kids got waitlisted this year?

thanks

Considering Harvard's steady yield throughout the years, the chance is very slim, if not non-existant I guess. In most of cases, you should take it as "polite reject."

I think getting into Stanford is extremely commendable.... I mean harvard isn't everything but if that's where you choose to go then that's fine

go to stanford.

Assume you're not getting into Harvard. The wait list isn't ranked. When Harvard has space available, it takes people off it to fill gaps in their freshman class. Getting off the wait list is not something that you can influence now.

If you want to stay on the wait list just in case, do so. However, put your thought and energy into selecting a college from your acceptances. Assume that is where you will go.

Congrats on having some very nice choices!

You might consider asking your gc to call Harvard admissions on your behalf. Also let them know if there are any additional factors in your favor and write them a note saying they're your first choice and you would accept a spot if it were offered. A little discrete campaigning is in order, though the chances of success are fairly slim.

Join the club, I'm waitlisted at Harvard too. I think I'm going to end up at Cornell, which is certainly not a bad thing. But I'm keeping my hopes up with Harvard, while I send my deposit to Cornell. I'm going to agree with Northstarmom, look into your accepted schools and see where you would want to go, but good luck with Harvard anyway!

As another fellow waitlistee, I urge you to evaluate whether you really wish to attend Harvard. Personally, I don't think I'm choosing the waitlist option.
