So how does this work? Are odds high or low of admission? IS there anything you can do to help?

thanks

You can call and tell U. Mich that I'm willing to give up my spot at LSA Honors just for you. I plan to go to UCLA anyway.

:)
Of course it won't work, but you can't say I didn't try.

well fonzie, you could give us something to go on, like stats

By Fonzie (Fonzie) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 05:45 pm: Edit

I am more curious for general info. Ie: someone knows a website where the stats or % of admits are listed

it seems NO ONE at all has any type of solid statistic about the april admission policy for Michigan and seeing that the people on these boards know their facts well, I was hoping they'd know anything

By Northstarmom (Northstarmom) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 05:47 pm: Edit

Fonzie,
Have you tried Google? That's probably a more efficient way of getting the answer to your question.

By Priscillama (Priscillama) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 05:49 pm: Edit

look in books and stuff
I applied to UM too
Admitted class of 2003:
49%admitted
in-state...higher chance of getting in
avg. sats 1250? near there
good essays n recommendations
relatives..etc

Nice response Northstarmom!!! HAHAHAHAH

Fonzie got served!

By Takanawajoe (Takanawajoe) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 08:15 pm: Edit

I was deferred also. My GC said this is how UM is doing WL now. So think of it as WL and US News data shows NO ONE GOT OFF WL......
I guess it is time we move on and forget UM. I am in at U Rochester and RPI and WPI so I have options. My father is UM grad and is taking it harder than I am....

By Fonzie (Fonzie) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 09:05 pm: Edit

No, there is a difference between the waitlist and deferrence. If you do not get in via deferrence, they MAY waitlist you.

And to Northstarmom- I have serached google only to find very little, thus I tried my luck here considering some people know A LOT about the college admission process. You know, like asking a college discussion website, about college questions? Gee, who would have thought?!

Flyguy- um, alright yeah I was served... that's good and all, but keep my topic serious, kthx.

By Thefrode989 (Thefrode989) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 09:38 pm: Edit

I have probably made about 4 posts on this board regarding info on Michigan deferral and the stats and no one has been able to provide me any information. Google does not help either. I share your frustration.

By Eskimo (Eskimo) on Friday, April 02, 2004 - 10:38 pm: Edit

Why can't a public institution like UM provide basic information re it's deferral process. Would it be so difficult for the ADCOM to disclose- say the number of deferrals etc. It has provided zilch. Nada. Like Thefrode989 I have looked everywhere for info. and have found absolutely nothing.
If I knew that I was wl I would cross UM off of my list and move on- but with this deferral crap who the heck knows what is going on. Hopefully something will be decided within the next 2 weeks. I am extremely frustrated.

Well, it is nice to find others in the same situation. Honestly, I think this is the first time they have had this policy (new admission procedures) so they could have been really conservative in the first round of admits and thinking optimistically, because app # are down, maybe a lot of us will get in.

It seems like people with really good stats (even over the 50% marks @ UM) are getting deferred. Kind of like Wisconsin's policy where they admit the top of the top in their class at a first glance then wait for the majority to be admitted later on when they see how the class is filling out

By Takanawajoe (Takanawajoe) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 12:43 am: Edit

Hey, you are all clutching at straws. My GC talked to admissions; UM deferred letter means WL now. We all need to face reality; we did NOT make the cut line. Better for us to move on. More than 2,000 WL last year and NO ONE GOT OFF THE WL!!!

We are toast as far as UM so let it go and move on.....
