I was accepted at Binghamtons Watson School. has a very good rep. it is the SUNY flagship school and hard to get into. I most likely will enroll at Villanova but we shall see

the jewel of the school is its management school ...party life defintaly exists although a lot of the kids who attend are from long island, who in turn hate the change in life from li to binghamton...thus the atmosphere there is often very bleak... the kids are intelligent but a lot of them mope around about how they should be attending top universities
... basically its a strange change of life if you are from an urban/vibrant community... but if you are used to rural upstate ny you should get along fine

I'm actually beginning to doubt the notion that it's "highly selective". It seems like every single kid from my school applied there and I have yet to hear any of them being rejected. A friend of mine recently got in with a 1040 SAT and minimal ECs.

SUNYs have the EOP program soulofheaven and binghamton typically doesn't take 1040s unless they're applying through that...i know kids in the high 1200s who were rejected.
i got in easily though with a 1370 and a 3.7 (and oddly enough minimal ECs but being a chug-the-kids-through-the-system diploma factory they don't care as much)

As I say, Bing is good in everything, but not great in anything.

Actually, the kid with the 1040 did not qualify for EOP because of high income.
However, I do know someone who tried to go through the EOP at Binghamton and was denied because of a 3.3 GPA (which was apparently too high), he had a 1080 and was waitlisted.

do any of you know the quota that SUNY's have to meet for out-of-state?
| By Mallorybee (Mallorybee) on Saturday, April 03, 2004 - 10:00 pm: Edit |
the suny's don't have a flagship school

My sister went there. It's nice, but she always complained that Binghamton was dull. NYC is not close at all. The cost of living is low in upstate New York, though, and it's easy to live off campus. Its reputation is on the rise, and yes, it is the SUNY system's flagship school. Good luck if you choose to apply.
